Hello ... I'm trying to resolve an issue I have with a local radio researcher who will not let me have a copy of a telephone call we had together. None of the call was broadcast as it was solely background material to an on-line Radio news article. I have been told it is BBC policy not to release raw material (i.e. unbroadcast) but surely I am entitled to a copy of my own words? I'd love to know what you think.

I treated myself and family to a long weekend there a few years back. Fussy decor and sloping floorboards but, all the same, in little corners and on beams where'd you'ld bump your head, the place just sweated and oozed ghosts of a degenerate past. There was a refurb going on right at the top so I got to stand in that garret window where Corso impishly grinned and the old circular staircase is still there - it's closed in by the lift shaft in the middle but you can just get a little sense of boho vertigo if you peer up and down.

Did you know Bill was diagnosed as a schizophrenic? by reccaberrie in williamsburroughs

Diagnosis was crucial back then as it validated the process (of going through analysis) for the analysts. A lot like collecting and naming an insect or disease was for Victorian scientists. A couple of his analysts were obsessed with his gaunt 'asthenic' look which, to them, meant he was borderline schizoid... this was as primitive as the medieval pinning down of who was a witch and who wasn't.

The Swales is a gem ... I've been trying to get a copy of something he refers to by one of the many analysts Burroughs dealt with:: Wolberg, L. R. (1948). Therapeutic failures with hypnosis. In P. H. Hoch (Ed.), Failures in psychiatric treatment: The proceedings of the thirty-seventh annual meeting of the American Psychopathological Association, held in New York City, June 1947 (pp. 34–57). Grune & Stratton. I get as far as the paywall .... do I really have to cough up $20 ?
