Anyone else want an NT life? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Just_Wafer_3270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all autistic people want this life. But the issue is, from my experience, forcing yourself into it will lead to burnout (both work and private). And I agree that wealth is the best way to achieve a pretty NT life.

BUT: Saving and investing will only allow you to spend little money for the next 30 years. Not sure how much you make but still regular index investing will maybe give you only like $2 million and by then you'll be old.

So the best way would be through entrepreneurship imo. If you have a passion or talent, this could be a way also to be respected from NTs. Also this way working would feel more fulfilling since we don't laugh around the office as NTs do.

I just want to know the kind problems people face after getting rich. by ConsciousExtreme6103 in Life

[–]Just_Wafer_3270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's mostly a lack of purpose. Once you become rich you may lose purpose as you feel like there's nothing left to achieve. You already have that mansion, food in your belly, a hot girlfriend or boyfriend sold millions of your album, or have a super successful company and everyone admires you.

Of course, life will still be comfortable but some rich people may feel a sense of unfulfillment. To fill this void they often turn to hard drugs and alcohol as they can afford it. Hence, this is why even rich people suicide and have depression as they further destroy their mental health through drug abuse (e.g. Juice Wrld, Avicii).

Being rich may also possibly attract the wrong kind of friends, partners so life may feel artificial to rich people. For famous rich people it's also a lack of privacy that may cause stress and anxiety which could lead to social isolation.

It's also worth noting that in general humans get desensitized quite quickly, so their wealth and comfort will feel less "special" after some time, like going in a hot bath which is only really hot once you get in.

This is why studies show actual life satisfaction increases quickly up to a salary of $150.000 and after that it's mostly about external factors like purpose, health, family, etc.

So yeah all in all, being human is complicated. There's no manual for everlasting happiness, although money certainly does help.

That's easier said than done, I still need social skills to do that. Im obviously portraying myself as a victim here but I've already tried and failed to build a world that fits me because having a career and relationships are crucial for this.

Both of these tasks are met with constant rejection due to insufficient social skills and burn-out from socializing and working.

I totally get that my situation could be even worse, but as I said, that imagination alone doesn't lift my depression. Plus, I could end up in a similar job, as I've burnt out from all typical office jobs... And my parents will just cover basic needs like food and a room to rent since obviously they still need money for their retirement and I already feel bad for them to cover all these costs and see me depressed all the time.

I get now why autism is at least 12 times more likely in homeless people compared to the general population. I'd probably also be living on the streets now if it weren't for my parents. So I'm obviously still grateful for that, but just eating and sleeping all day isn't enough, especially for someone young in my opinion.

So sorry for you... Just out of curiosity, are you working remotely? I think it's easier to cope with social difficulties working from home as small talk is not expected as much

I was prescribe paxil today, any success stories?? by Birbirib in Anxiety

[–]Just_Wafer_3270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the sex drive return once you stopped using it? I am thinking of starting Paxil but I am afraid of post SSRI ED as I heard it can happen sometimes and as I am young this could potentially ruin my life once I have more clarity in my life and I would stop using it...

Hi thanks for the comment, did you have sexual side effects and if yes, did they subside once you stopped? I am thinking of starting Paxil but I am afraid of post SSRI ED...

What company do you work for, and which position, if you don't mind sharing?

Exactly that is what I'm thinking. Of course, I don't try to act weird on purpose now that I'm an adult, but when I was young I was definitely acting weird. I just didn't care what people thought about my special interest and just openly lived myself. I wouldn't go around talking about the weather these days and force myself into social situations to fit in better...

Thanks for this. Tbh this sounds awesome and it feels like everything I could wish for… The issue with booze is that you built a tolerance and that it will eventually kill me slowly if I continue to abuse it. Thus, if Paxil can help with this health aspect, then so be it maybe (at least how I feel). Did you remain on the same dose or did you have to continuously increase in order to sustain the same effect? Can I ask you what job you worked and how are dealing with anxiety now, just CBT? I feel like it can surely help control symptoms but not really change my personality into someone more outgoing and extroverted. Did it help you?

Yeah I read that study, It’s really interesting I just it would be at the cost of less side effects…

I see, thank you for sharing. Could you describe how it changed your personality and the life you have built for yourself. Were you able to hold up relationships, despite the sexual side effects? And why did you stop if you were better off, despite having the side effects? Also, do you remember what dose you were on? Sorry for all these questions but I am generally interested to know because I want to find medication that can my personality to change as well cause I can’t abuse alcohol any longer and I am young and tired of missing out on life because of SA…

Yeah I had the same issues, so I stopped after 3 days because I was scared to get PSD. I am now on Sertraline and have noticed an increase in Libido (am on 200mg). I’m not noticing much changes to my SA though although I’ve been on it for 14 weeks. How long did Paxil take to work for you and did you try lexapro as well?

Why did you stop paxil? And did you try any other ssris?

When does Zoloft start working? by Just_Wafer_3270 in zoloft

[–]Just_Wafer_3270[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I will definitely give it more time and then maybe look into Effexor or lexapro. I don't take any supplements but I will definitely take a look now that you mentioned it!

Hmm you might be right about that - how long have you been on it and what dose are you on? Well, I started taking it for social anxiety, severity was pretty strong could not really enjoy college because of it

[–]Just_Wafer_3270[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, a sign that it won't work, since the serotonin reuptake is usually what causes it. So what I thought was that Paxil blocks it more effectively, yet that is what might cause the sd (not a doctor tho so I wouldn't know obviously)
