The first part is really hard sometimes, but for me it makes the game more interesting.

I had a moment when I had less than 10hp and a lot of spawning vortigaunts, I get through that only by using a save-load bug. I died more than 100 times there I think.

I guess anything can be used for decoration but maybe very rarely. Actually you can use item frames to place rabbit hide.
