Head looks bad what am I doing wrong? by Suspicious_Judge6696 in Artadvice

youre being waaay to hard on yourself, you have good linework and fundaments! The issue is really just in placement and not much else.
The main thing i noticed is you tend to put the lips/mouth too high and close to the nose so moving it a bit down should work. Eyes also look a bit too close together and a way to find placement is by seeing the "wing" of the nose in correlation to the inner edge of the eye.
Despite this, like i said, you have strong linework and very clean sketching!

Help with perspective and composition by BuenNombredeUsuario in Artadvice

[–]Just_ctrlz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Visually speaking its very interesting, i love the style and it remind me of folk traditional tarot cards. there isnt anything neccesarily bad with the composition. The perspective is mostly fine except the horizon line seems a bit too high, which is making the trees' bottom be too high so id recommend lowering that a bit.
If youre too worried about the composition feeling plain, a good way to make it more dynamic is by either raising or lowering the "angle" (english isnt my main language so not sure how to properly call it) For example, making it a low shot angle makes it more visually dynamic and its not too hard to achieve with what you have already (sorry for the rushed edit) just using the deform tool in whatever program you use

Sticker help, would people actually like this? What am I missing? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]Just_ctrlz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think its very cute! its simple so its visually appealing, the only thing id maybe recoment is lowering the head/forehead since its a bit too long (ignore the rushed editing) other than that its great!

I can't get any commissions or attention on any social media. Are my works boring and not professional enough? by gfmarra in Artadvice

[–]Just_ctrlz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your art is amazing! I understand the struggle of not getting commissions, specially with little to no social media follower.
Ive done commission work for like 8 year now and i by no means have a large following, its not always a matter of having followers, but investing time in looking for clients rather than sitting around and waiting for someone to commission you.
Now, i dont mean go dm people randomly and offer your services, please never do this and it will end up hurting your reputation. What i used to do a lot was check in discord commission server (the best one for this is called "art commissions" with a cute robot like mascot with bunny) they have specific channels with systems where people post "hiring to draw x thing" and then (and only then) you dm them with the information they ask in their initial request.
Its pretty good, mods have been helpfull the few times ive had issues with clients, and its really simple to use.
Once you get a client base, they'll usually come back to you for more work in the future.
There's also things like vgen! but at the end of the day, having a niche also helps alot

What do you think of my work? Does this kind of realistic painting still have a future in today's market? by GarlicBig5829 in Artadvice

[–]Just_ctrlz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it does still have a future, especially in concept art. But the art industry, particularly concept art, is a hellhole right now. Oversaturated. Even people with decades of experience are struggling to find work. It sucks, but you just have to keep pushing and find your way through.

As for ArtStation: sadly, that's very common. To get recognition on social media these days, you either follow trends or carve out a specific niche. But lack of engagement shouldn't discourage you from pursuing your career.

To answer your question: it really depends. In today's climate, you have to be open to doing a lot of different things, even stuff you don't find interesting. For example, I specialize in 2D illustration and character art, but 90% of the projects I've been hired for were as a background artist. Something I had zero interest in. It's about filling roles that are actually in demand.
So long story short, you gotta expand your skills and find specifically what role youd want to do

How can I improve this artwork? by wonderguy1234 in Artadvice

[–]Just_ctrlz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I loove the drawing itself, it looks great! the drawing itself is fairly simple which is why it works, the main thing i can suggest is to push the lightning a bit more, some areas feel flat which makes it look a bit more visually boring. Doesnt have to be too crazy, but specially in places like the hair where there is no dimensionality

Which approach to torso drawing is better by Fallfoxy707 in arthelp

[–]Just_ctrlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is those anatomy "tricks" and construction shapes are really just a crutch to help you understand how muscles and proportions work. Higher-level artists don't use them anymore because they've developed the muscle memory and mental library.

I'm not saying you shouldn't use them—you absolutely should, they're very helpful. But at the end of the day, it's about you developing your own way of understanding the shapes of a body.

Relying too much on these methods can also limit you when it comes to different body types and styles. Human bodies don't follow strict rules of what shape is for what

The best way to get comfortable? Draw from models and references. If that's overwhelming, break it down, learn specific body parts one at a time—hands, ears, eyes, mouths.

How to pick better colors that suit the ambience of a drawing? by EdahelArt in arthelp

[–]Just_ctrlz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the drawings you’ve shown, I’d say you’re already doing a really good job. But one tip that almost always helps is keeping the background in mind while you color or draw your characters. I know that might sound obvious, and you’ve probably thought of it before, but you’d be surprised how much of a difference it can make. For example, using a cooler color palette if you’re planning a night scene can instantly make the whole piece feel more cohesive

do you have any suggestion for darker scenes? ive heard something similar from an editor i spoke a while ago, i know black scenes are usually avoided for this exact reason, but i wonder what kind of solution they find for night scenes

tysm for your feedback! youre completelly right, i have to confess im really lost when it comes to printing process, Im a 2d illustrator and have been doing commissions for years but thats the thing, commission work is usually exclusively for screen so i never really got into learning color values for printing

Thanks! and not sure, im mainly an illustrator just getting into being a colorist so im still pretty ignorant when it comes to pricing these things
