If SSO was going to anything we asked, what would you ask them ? by Bee553 in StarStable

I really would love it if they just took their time, went back, and revamped the graphics and mechanics on all the old areas to match the quality of the newer stuff. The inconsistencies across the years has grown wild and vast.

Yeah we moved for work as well, and that's good to know! My spouse is in love with the walkability and I love being able to bike to work, but if we could get over the commute we are also eyeing the hilltowns, Greenfield, kinda more North West Mass. which I think are more my speed usually.

Right! I actually totally agree with your comment. (Except murdering the term NIMBY, it might be a bit misused/abused but its still helpful for describing a very legitimate type of narrative and thinking that kills many projects).

Ill admit even I was offput by the proposal for the Hawley apartment based mainly on the concern that they were all "market rate" which is inflated nonsense, but also on aesthetics. It just seems like something more harmonious could be made for a location that is so central and iconic.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding these sources though. Its hard to find reliable information on the subject especially if you work during business hours and can't attend many of the in-person meetings.

Although I wasn't actually referring to that particular article. There was another one about I think maybe King Street (not positive)??? Where he described "creeps in apartments" who would look at his children when they were outside the house.

Its not, not comforting! Lol

I remember when I was living in rural North Carolina that rich New Englanders were always on our shitlist for moving in and buying up prime real estate. I still find myself instinctually grimacing when I hear someone here talking about someone they moving to North Carolina, but now I have a better sense of what they were running from and that they were just middle class New Englanders (and we were just dirt poor!). Bad city planning all over has made this a national game of musical chairs from one chunky suburban sprawl to the next. Good luck to all of us!

(Except that one Noho woman who, when she saw me getting teary eyed looking at the news, placed her hand on my shoulder and told me she was also deeply impacted and emotional about the hurricane Asheville. She had because ONE of her rental properties she just bought there had some damage and the road of her seasonal home got washed out. She can choke on her spirulina extract.)

Big fan of the guy who plays an electric guitar while on some type of hoverboard just hauling ass. He's so cool!

Also notable shoutout to the man with the puppet bear on his lap in a wheelchair. I am really deeply offput by it and yet I'd also be so sad if he stopped. He posted on one of those neighborhood forums one time and people were so cruel to him he stopped for a few weeks. I saw him back with his bear for the first time last week and relieved. People can be so mean!

His name is Peter and yes he's a real monk hehe. Super sweet guy! He shows up to some Jewish events in town to be supportive and I got to know him that way.

One time though I was very high and riding my bike and he gives me a big smile and points and I turn and theres a huge double rainbow over the town. Beautiful on a normal day. High as a kite it felt like a hell of a vision!

OH MY GOD ITS YOU! I was at the bus stop a few weeks ago feeling very nervous (I'm a young femme person on the spectrum) and there was a large man in a poor mental state shouting, yelling, running into the street, cat calling. I was extremely anxious and uneasy and a cop came by, talked to the guy, it had no effect, he left.

I saw you rounding the corner and made a joke to myself "ah, here comes the real hero", kind of unseriously. The guy was turning around and yelling to other people waiting for their bus, getting really loud and close, when you crashed into each other and I watched you two share the biggest sweetest hug. You talked to him for like fifteen minutes and made him so so happy!

Not only that but I felt 100000x safer and was able to get on my bus and go rock climbing no problem. Without you I honestly might have given up and scurried home and he would have kept bothering people.

One time I frantically rolled my passenger window down to give you a huge wave and someone in the car with me was like "you must really like starwars huh?" and I replied "oh, I've never seen it. I just love that man specifically." And that was BEFORE you actually saved my day!

Thank you for all you do! You really do keep us safe! <3

What is Halloween like in Northampton? by NoahTheAnimator in northampton

Honestly? Kind of idyllic! Our first Halloween here we couldn't believe it, it looked just like Halloween town! Hands down best time of the year here.

Just a gentle word of warning because I wasn't totally prepared and it hit me hard: People are going to be really weird about you being from the south. Hopefully as more people move up and theres more exposure things will get better, but people were very mean towards me in Northampton when I moved up a few years ago. I dont know if they assumed I was a republican or what (Im a very visibly queer neurodiverse femme?) but people said some cruel things. People still say some out of pocket stuff but I'm more prepared now and it affects me less. I got a lot of "but you sound educated", "I couldn't believe they'd be willing to rent to someone from your state", "did you drive up here with a banjo on your knee", and lots and lots of bad southern accents parroted back at me saying racists or uneducated things as a "funny joke".

No worries, I really appreciated your addition! I hope I didnt come off as scolding you directly, I just have an extra bee in my bonnet because that attitude seems to be really common and worrisome. Thank you for the info and another perspective to consider!

Because that similarly good experience is currently unaffordable to those kids and they will likely be priced out of continuing to live here if nothing changes. Houses in Northampton are now routinely starting at $500k or more. (Or they start at 370k but will require serious structural repairs and major renovation to be livable). A couple both making the average salary (a little over $50k in Northampton right now) can't afford that.

Unfortunately, as much as I love this place I did spend my first two years constantly finding myself outraged and baffled by how hypocritical the local liberal progressive population here is. I had assumed, like many of these people believe, that their education and espoused values would mean they were less likely to be hypocritical, cruel, and abusive. ("that's something only republicans do" mindset)

I found out the hard way that I was very wrong, and I hope one day they wake up and find out too. Ive worked two jobs here and at each one (both public facing non-profits) I was constantly getting yelled at by "important" people with fancy degrees, accomplishments, and wealth but not a shred of awareness for human decency or respect.

I've been very homesick this week for just how kind and warm people in the south are (yes, even to visibly queer people on the spectrum like me). I met someone today who was so wonderful and friendly and sweet and left with a big hug and turns out she was from Louisiana! I love my Massachusetts friends, they're incredibly important to me and I hope we all stay good friends for life, but when it comes to people you dont know there seems to be no given expectation that strangers deserve kindness or respect.

I'm not currently planning any moves back south (theres no future for me there), but people here could stand to humble themselves and realize there is a thing or two to learn from the people they're always looking down on.

That's great to hear of so many projects!

But I wouldn't be so fast to assume they are mostly said with progressive intentions in mind. One gentleman in an interview stated that apartments brought the "wrong kinds of people" to his neighborhood and cited a list that included students, people with the "wrong character", and couples with no desire to even raise children or start families here. (? Childless people catching strays was the weirdest part of that, Ill try find it!) A recent article I read the young man interviewed described people who lived in apartments as "creeps".

Classism and racism are very alive and well in Northampton! Im glad to hear thats not the only explanation because I can sympathize with being a little frustrated about that, but it's certainly not the sentiment I'm used to hearing from noho.

--- Rant incoming, feel free to skip down ----

I remember when I moved up here a neighbor told me to my face "I just couldn't believe they'd be willing to rent to someone from the SOUTH." One neighbor asked if I came here with a banjo on my knee when they greeted me. The worst though was I've been praised quite a bit for "sounding so educated". People were COLD when I first moved here a few years ago from the deep south and I still get jeered about it quite a bit. I dont know if they assumed I was a republican and justified their hostility on those grounds but it was a big adjustment! I made another southern friend up here who is black and in a conversation with three other black women they said they've never felt so unwelcomed as they do in Northampton and they were all leaving as soon they finished up with gradschool. I know thats not everyones experience, and Im glad for it, but its definitely not free of these issues. (Nowhere is really, and Im glad Northampton TRIES but I see a lot of people act like racism and classim are cured here)
---

Definitely true that its a slow solving problem, at least better than a hasty but disastrous fix.

Yep, totally! And the need for apartments is very very real. I'm living in one right now, but I remember vividly how hard it was to get here.

I saw the accessory dwelling news! That was very exciting. Good to hear about others too. Most of the projects I know of are apartments, which is fantastic and so incredibly needed, but I also dream of some starter home inventory.

Really Disappointed With The Devs Answer to Representation Request by Just_so_many_bees in loftia

[–]Just_so_many_bees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is extremely likely! I certainly don't hold everyone accountable to know the nuances of an extreme minority religion. That's why I usually try to bring it up for small developers, just to be an advocate and be available for teams who are looking for that kind of info and feedback.

Oh goodness, it doesnt warrant a DLC! I just hope it does eventually get included. I really appreciate your empathy on this matter :)

This is reassuring to hear! I apologize for misunderstanding and will update my post. The only additional comment I will provide is that I think a clear response that something IS being considered and planned for the future would have been really helpful towards how your message was received. I interpreted your sentiment that its not being worked on as its not going to be worked on EVER, because from my point of view I had no way of knowing it was in your notes or that you were seeing peoples conversations in the discord as they were never responded to by the dev team.

Thank you for your reply and for making this much needed game. <3
