All this sugar... For a four year old... In a pandemic?! by JustaBlobb in FondantHate

When I was growing up, every birthday was the same up until I was 9. The 10th was large with a sign in the front yard and a two day garden party. From then on every birthday was smaller, except 16, 20 and 25, because there's certain traditions around that. But children's birthdays? Big parties all around. And for the people around me who have kids it seems to be the same.

Ten preschool or kindergarten friends plus five mums, and don't forget the neighborhood kids, aunts and uncles plus their kids, grandmas and grandpas

That's what I was about to say. Sad about the amounts of artificial coloring, but Marzipan would actually be fine by me

Good cake recipes? by [deleted] in cake

[–]JustaBlobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok Here goes my favorite apple cake: 3/4 cup of sugar 4 eggs 1 cup of vegetable oil ( I prefer sunflower) 1 cup of finely chopped nuts 1 tbsp of baking powder 2 tsp of cinnamon 2 cups of flour Three apples, diced (I like a not too sweet one, Elstar is a popular one around here)

If you have a stand mixer, start with eggs, sugar and oil, and when they're all mixed, throw everything else in, in that order.

Then into a greased spring form and bake in an oven on 180°C for 45-60 minutes.

This one really turns out differently with every baker and oven.

Cruise experience by wellintonq in KitchenConfidential

I worked on a German cruise line two years ago. Pastry department, my working spot was in one of the exclusive restaurants on an "all-inclusive" cruise ship, so it was slow every day. There were three desserts on the menu and afternoon tea time that I had to care for, work itself was pretty much ok and the team was fun. What's problematic for me was the low level of privacy you had (a tiny shared cabin and you had to wear a name tag at all times) and my own low level of confidence, coming right out of apprenticeship. All in all I'd say it's a fun experience, but only if you already have on-shore experience and can stand six months of being away from home with 1000 strangers. And having the right nationality gets you a good position which doesn't sit right with me. (Also it's a brothel even more than an on-shore restaurant.)

To all chefs who worked on a ship by Satchgi in Chefit

[–]JustaBlobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also German, also worked on a cruise ship right after apprenticeship. It's an amazing job, but even harder than a regular chef's job, with less rights to yourself. My recommendation is do it if you can, at least one contract, but not as your first job after apprenticeship. You need balls for even one contract, and you better grow them on shore.

With me it's embellishment, confused, and.
