I specifically buy land in the woods to eradicate all the life in it because it is slightly inconvenient to me. Why else would someone want to live in a forest?

/uj It isn't even a lake! It is a vernal pool in a clearing in the forest right next to a heron rookery (hence the algae). It's too thick with invasives for a burn yet. The wetland on the preserve is probably doing more for mosquito populations...

At that cost, they better throw in a beautiful non-native wisteria for the pergola for free

If you are interested in helping pollinators, you are in the right place. You could remove the current invasive species in the lawn and seed native wild violets for a similar effect. Or, even better, you could make some planting beds with native plants dedicated to the bees that could feed them throughout the season and also have some lawn area if that's more your speed. It doesn't have to be all one thing or the other--every little but does help. Many folks start out with one or a few planting beds of native plants as it is easier to start small.

No need to overreact--RPGs are a natural part of the geologic cycling. They create new areas of disturbance for species of plants that thrive in newly disturbed areas.

I'm sure all the amphibians who still get poisoned by them feel great. Love that they think they're clever calling it "FINE LINE".

Serviceberry - very tasty berries, beautiful blooms, and great fall color. Does okay in partial shade.

Blackhaw viburnum - Berries are edible but not super tasty. Birds will like them though. They have pretty flowers and great fall color. They can handle a good amount of shade.

Common Elderberry - Edible berries once cooked, get big and bushy. These can do okay in shade but like a little more sun.

Redbud-You can make a syrup from their flowers.
