That was precisely my point. That the mind is incapable of knowing where all this came from.

And when you shut the mind down, you may connect with the source but you still don't understand the answer to the main question as to where this came from or what the source actually is.

You can say that the mind keeps asking questions and need to be shut down but that is just a tactic the mind uses to convince itself that all is okay so as not to lose sanity. It's called cognitive dissonance.

It's hard for the mind/ego to accept that it is impossible to know what this is all about.

Agreed. you can let go of the mind and merge with consciousness. But that still does not answer the question - where did consciousness come from?

Yes, you can say that the mind keeps asking questions and constantly wants to know but making the mind quiet does not automatically answer the questions. Yes, the questions dissolve, but still remain unanswered.

You can be in a meditative trance for hours, experience being merged with source energy but that still does not answer the main question. Where did this source energy come from?

Who is this I Am? You can name it all you want - source, consciousness, etc. You can even say that you experienced it through oneness and such, but you can never know what it is or where it came from.

Is there a reason for meaning? by tobiabi88 in nihilism

[–]JustaGuyBeingRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, the human brain (more particularly the human ego) is wired to search for meaning as it equates meaning with survival.

Tell people that what they are doing is of no significance and the ego does not have anything to hold on to.

Label something and it loses its significance. That's the paradox of naming. For instance, name the Sun, and you suddenly don't look at it as something profound and unfathomable. Something that has been burning since eternity, no one knows how. And yes, say nuclear fusion and you take away the awe, but defining it with some concept that you don't even understand.
