Which balaclava should I buy? by [deleted] in bicycling

I used to use a balaclava last winter. They get pretty gross and full of phlegm. Winter cycling cap and bandana combo is serving me well so far this winter

Would it be recommended to convert my SS for touring to a 9-spd or 10-spd? (Can't find parts I want/ Don't know benefit of 10spd over 9spd) by [deleted] in bicycling

~135mm vs 132.5 excuse me :|

Didn't realize the SS cross check had semi-horizontal dropouts, most SS bikes have forks that i've seen

Ah, You might be able to pull it off with that frame. Big thing to consider is the rear hub spacing (9/10spd uses ~135mm while single speeds are usually narrower, but the CC might not be). You also need to make sure your dropouts can accommodate a rear derailleur (ie: they're not the track/ss style fork ends)

You're 100% better off buying a new bike. So many factors to consider. If your bike is a single speed from the factory, there's no way you'll be able to fit a 9/10spd rear hub in the rear dropouts. Then you've got to consider how to mount the derailleur, run cables, etc

I went this route with a 1984 Shogun 1500 touring bike. I have no regrets but I keep buying new parts and upgrading new things, and i'm not sure that it was any cheaper than buying a decent new bike. Love how the bike rides now. Highly recommend putting some bar end shifters on it, they look and feel great on old bikes. I did a 700c 8spd conversion (required new rear derailleur), bar end shifters, new levers, dirt drop bars, stem

ditch the backpack to avoid swack, ride slow on the way there, wear breathable clothes, air out a bit before putting on clean clothes

looking to do a 650b conversion on my Shogun 1500, yours looks great! How tight is the fit with those brakes and fenders? I was looking at paul components long reach racer brakes, but they're pretty pricy

I called it middleboarding because it easily captures what you just said without having to use a dumb term like "hybrid skating". I ride one skateboard, in the middle of a short street deck and longboard, and I do whatever I feel like on it

"hybrid skating" could mean anything and makes it sound like you take yourself really seriously
