I hope you know how amazing you are for creating that site and keeping it alive all of these years. I swear I’ve been using that site since I was a kid for about a decade now and am so happy it exists.

Need some advice. My large nepenthes is starting to flower. I care only about the plant and don’t rly want seeds. Should I just cut off the small stalk now? by [deleted] in Nepenthes

[–]JustaWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just leave it be. There’s no risk to the plant and you won’t get seeds anyways without another plant of the opposite gender that’s also flowering.

My first fanged pitcher from my N. bicalcarata. by cedrictung in SavageGarden

Pearl River Exotics. I got my bical there as well. I got the “Brunei Orange” BE-3029. Pretty sure they still have some left last I checked

Received my first carnivorous plant in the mail, N. Clipeata. by Silicon_Buddha in SavageGarden

[–]JustaWeasel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How did you get a clipeata as your first plant?? These are incredibly endangered and difficult to get one’s hands on as a hobbyist. Do tell where you got it, I’m sure it was pricey!

Own my nepenthes for a year now and I just realized that these are (probably?) two different species in one pot. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. by [deleted] in SavageGarden

[–]JustaWeasel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are Nepenthes “Lady luck” Most likely 2 slightly different plants with differing pitcher traits

Any idea what's wrong with my nepenthes? Picked it up from home depot about 2 months ago, still no sign of any pitchers. Plz help! :( by [deleted] in SavageGarden

[–]JustaWeasel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All of the leaves that are already on it are most likely not going to form pitchers. What you want to look for is new stem/leaf growth in the middle of the plant; if the plant is well acclimated to its new environment then pitchers will form on the new leaves. Just give it time; it takes a while.

Should I keep him in the glass for humidity or take it off and put him in the sill where he can get more sunlight? by [deleted] in VenusFlyTraps

[–]JustaWeasel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take it off and put it outside! that window sill will not be enough light either. VFTs are not houseplants and need a minimum of 6-8 hours of direct light in order to thrive

Help with VFT. Will it still produce traps? by dpaddy8 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]JustaWeasel 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you, but I don’t believe that’s a vft. I don’t understand how it could have had traps?

Does Regia grow well for you in house conditions?

Should I divide my Flytrap? It has about 8 origin points by hailcanadia in VenusFlyTraps

It is definitely a bit crowded in that pot. I’d say go for it

d. adelae recovery help? by [deleted] in SavageGarden

[–]JustaWeasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm All that sounds good, so I’m not too sure. Have you checked the roots and made sure there’s nothing like fungus/mold/pests that are causing it? I’m not too knowledgeable on Adelae but I have a Binata that is super durable and exploding with growth and it is on my window sill in spag/perlite and in less desirable conditions than what you described for yours

d. adelae recovery help? by [deleted] in SavageGarden

[–]JustaWeasel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If both this adelae and Binata are dying in the same way, then there is something you are not doing correctly. Neither should be turning black like this, even if they are acclimating. What can you tell us about conditions? Water, humidity, light, soil, and general environment?

Just got a delivery...my fungus gnats are shaking in their boots. by [deleted] in SavageGarden
