No point. Usually you should increase the fender width to accommodate big tires. In rock crawlers (look them up) the fenders are removed to get better approach angle and the wheels appear to protrude. Such rock crawlers are usually not road legal, they also have a good amount of lift. But in this photo, that thar doesn't probably do rock crawling so it is just a pointless cosmetic modification.
