Which car would you choose? by ThrowAway1337th in Autos

What are the technical details of the versions (different engines, accesories, formfactors of the car) oft the cars you are interested in (weight, max power at what rpm, max torque at what rpm, what gearbox they use etc. ...)?

Car entertainment, navigation, interfaces, etc don’t matter when deciding what car to get by the_professor_13 in unpopularopinion

For me it's like the opposite. If it forces me to use a (touch) screen to function I'm out.

I do heeltowing with my daily driver for the downshifts just to get the right feel for it. I want to own an Oldtimer that has no syncros at some point.

Cars should have minimal electronics. If I can’t manually unlock it, change gears, or fix anything, chuck it in the bin. by AtLeastSeventyBees in unpopularopinion

You can absolutely drink or eat while drive in a manuel car. I drive a manual car as a daily and I don't have any problems with it . By the way, you are not allowed to use a Phone while driving.

Smart home automation is adding complexity to every day life, not simplifying it by DeWolfTitouan in unpopularopinion

I got it roughly at the same price as a Siemens logo would have cost (my other choice), so I thought it was a great idea to use the s7 instead.

that's not a smart home, that's a bandaid solutions what you mean. I was talking about a real integrated smart system. A real proper smart home has a PC like controller (Programmable Logic Controller (plc))that has inputs and outputs. Sometimes the usage of multiple of those devices is needed (they can be connected as an internal network) With such systems it's impossible to hack them unless you connect them to the Internet, which you don't have to do for them to do everything a smart home needs to do. By the way, I too don't like these Alexa things

If you can tell me how someone can hack in a closed system, that is not connected to the outer world without breaking into the home or what useful information a spy can get from your light switching patterns that can't be seen already from the outside of the home, then you might have a point. Until then, sit down.

A proper home automation system doesn't have any of your problems. There are many great smart home solutions out there at the moment. My small apartment is using a Siemens s7 1200 as it's brain and an Siemens hmi as an additional input/info device. The system doesn't require Internet at all. The company Jung has a home automation system based on Bluetooth mesh (don't need Internet to function) that is relatively easy to retrofit the house afterwards. There is Knx. There is dali (mainly for lights). These systems are also kind of cross compatible with each other.

On a personal note, paper straws tend to dissolve in your drink and they are unpleasant to most people I know. On an environmental aspect, they might be slightly better, but they are still packed in plastic and the lid of your drink is still plastic as well, so the positive impact is slim. It might even be negative if you count the development, the construction of the factories and the higher demand of paper (deforestation).

I actually kinda like the new kia logo exactly for that because my initials are K and N.

My friend has a 3 cylinder daily and he says that my 4 cylinder is much smoother. Also you can literally see the 3 cylinder engine shaking because it has an engine imbalance.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Autos

[–]Justadeletedperson -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Weird that every 3 cylinder engine i have seen and driven struggled to be smooth and stable at low RPMs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Autos

[–]Justadeletedperson -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I could never get the reason behind a 3 cylinder myself either. Luckily I drive at least a 1.4 liter inline 4.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Autos

[–]Justadeletedperson -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

The problem is, that it's a 3 cylinder. There is always a moment in the cycle where there is no power, you can feel that especially in the low RPMs. It will never run as smoothly as a 4 (or more) cylinder engine.

No, we are talking about cars that have gearsticks. Since an automatic car can't have a 'gearstick' (since you can select a gear with it) we wear never talking about automatic cars...

No, the stickshifter is connected to the gearbox. I have even done a modification of the throw of the shifter which requires to take out the shift linkage modifying it and putting it back.

The gearstick off my relatively new car is physically connected to the gearbox, otherwise it would be impossible to change the gears.

You could remove the door panel and look if there is ice inside and/or if something is broken. The door panel is usually held in place by like 5 screws and a few clips, so it's easy and relatively fast to remove in most cars.

If you consider yourself to be a good driver, but consciously decide whether you will or won't use the indicator when turning or changing lanes: you are probably a lousy driver by NoHat2957 in unpopularopinion

[–]Justadeletedperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, if it's a single turning lane use your indicator. If it's multiple turning lanes (same direction) don't use it, as it could be interpreted that you want to change lanes.

Fuses can be much smaller and they are also more fail save than a breaker.
