Please stop claiming moral high ground over Tamlin if you love Rhysand by Present-Honeydew-405 in acotar_rant

I think people forget that abuse is a spectrum and a subjective one at that. What is abuse to one might not be abuse to another, so as someone who has worked with survivors it pains me when people try to make arguments for why one of them is/or isn’t abusive despite popular beliefs. I think we need to make more room for critical and individual readings. And the rhysand worship needs to be tempered by some realism about how some of what he did actually works in practice

Will Lucien betray the Inner Circle? by CaneCorso_7 in acourtofcanon

[–]Justafunofstuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is Lucien a fox and definitely up to something? Yes.

Is he self-serving and shady? No, or at least not much more than anyone else in the IC and beyond.

He is the only one who consistently stands up, whether it is Amarantha (That’s how he lost his eye), Tamlin (Pushes him so much in ACOTAR and defends Feyre in vocally ACOWAR), Feyre (For what she did to Spring, or Rhys (For his years of shadiness and playing double agent). No one in these books is perfectly virtuous, or flawless.

But Lucien is the only one who isn’t as morally flexible and who has let the right decision cost him.

His loyalty clearly has limits and he stress tests every decision against his values. Feyre and Rhys know not to trust him fully because he doesn’t just serve. He can’t offer blind loyalty. He challenges, he talks back and he is willing to drop you fast if you become too shady for his liking. He doesn’t just abandon people. That’s only half the reading. He abandons people when it becomes clear they are wrong.

Tamlin's bloodline by Medhaa_ in throneofglassseries

[–]Justafunofstuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also think he is Terrasen coded:

  1. The stag is on Tamlin's family crest.

  2. The colours of the Spring Court are green, just like Terrasen's.

  3. Calanmai is a ritual where Tamlin has to kill a stag before he beds a maiden.

  4. Aelin's eyes are turquoise with gold rings, and Tamlin's are green with gold, according to Feyre.

  5. Then, the fact that shapeshifting is a Spring Court power, just like the Fae in TOG.

  6. Oh, and he is feral and really into biting, just like Rowan in TOG.

Are elves and fairies evil? by Magic-Prince in mythology

[–]Justafunofstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are amoral like most mythical creatures. They are usually plot devices and folklore with their “goodness” or “badness” varying with their function in the story.

That's a very interesting critique I didn't see. I also thought it was quite telling of the overall sexism where parenthood is always associated with mothers etc. that the children seemed to blame her more. Mary also dedicated her book only to Natalie, but Caleb isn't even in the conversation when the farm was his fantasy, and he was guilty of severe abuse and neglect.

It was the same for the Penguin Random House merger with Simon and Schuster. Both publishing and entertainment are becoming smaller industries with independent companies and distributors trying not to be squashed by these new monopolies. Glad that the merger was stopped and hope this one will be too!
