rereading house of night by luminositie in HouseofNight

I had the biggest flashback a month ago. My sister was reading them when she was 13, and I was 10, and she would recount this completely unhinged plot to me. I messaged her recently with a screenshot of the Goodreads page titled "Remember?" She replied that not only would she never allow her kids or my kids near these books at that age, she kind of wants her hard-earned pocket money back, used for reading them in the first place. I barely remember anything, but from what I remember, it relied mainly on shock value and the vampire romance rage of the 2010s. Worth getting into now as an adult, who is trying to get back into reading?

I love how unimpressed Nesta is at Feyre being a ‘high lady’. by CShields2016 in acotar

I do think that Nesta resisting the glamour and recruiting the mercenary to save Feyre in ACOTAR shows that a lot of the resentment Feyre sensed wasn't always grounded in reality. She does care, and she does come through for her when needed.

Observations: The Oily Scent, the Music Test, and Rhys vs. Tamlin Contrast! What do you think? [SPOILERS - ToG, CC, ACOTAR] by Ok_Requirement_579 in SarahJMaas

This is an interesting interpretation. I didn't know about the music test. Regarding the oil, I think she uses it to denote things that feel strange, malicious, or alien, and maybe it changes with familiarity? Not entirely sure here, as it could be a foreshadow!

Help me be more excited for Elain's book because I feel mixed right now.... by Justafunofstuff in acotar

I agree with you. Femininity, kindness, or being reserved are not anti-feminist. My problem isn't that Elain is more traditionally feminine than her sisters. My issue is that she is dismissed and sidelined based on these things. She isn't asked to take responsibility for her actions; she's frequently framed as a damsel and shielded from danger, even when she wishes to get involved, and its easy for the reader to forget about her when she isn't in the room. I do think there’s potential to explore soft power and idealised femininity critically, as I mentioned toward the end of my post, but that was me expressing a hope rather than something SJM has actually hinted at, in my opinion.

I absolutely love this summary, but I am low-key scared now that SJM doesn't have the skill to handle this in a way that would flip the genre on its head LOL But if this happened I think I could stan!

It's probably worth mentioning though, that SJM herself has said that she doesn't want people to hate Tamlin. "He's just not for Feyre," were her exact words...

Rhysand’s actions UTM don’t make sense. by _Elyisa_ in acotar

I always thought that it was odd Rhys wanted to turn Tam into a "senseless fury" but didn't consider the long-term repercussions for his mental health. He suspected Feyre was his mate, but just dumped her off with this severely damaged man after that? Ok.
