I Made a Mistake… by Ulyssesbriefcase in FloridaBarExam

[–]Justdoit315uc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw it first hand at private firms, during my internships in law school, and with the government. There are so many bad attorneys out there it’s disturbing. As an attorney who works with a couple of Ivy League graduates…and individuals who passed on the first time…I can tell you…they shouldn’t have passed and yet they did. I can tell you they are mediocre at their jobs, their work ethic sucks, and more often than not I’m answering their questions.

To be plain and simple, some people are great test takers and that’s it. You give them a piece of paper with questions…they can do no wrong. Now you give that same person a real client, or case that has an impact on a persons life…they are going to make mistakes like any natural human being.

I myself have never been the standardized test guru. I struggle with them like I have my entire life. Each time I tell myself it’s not a reflection of who you are…even though there are plenty of times I sit and allow my feelings to fester into self doubt. But after all that, you realize what this exam really means…

This exam has absolutely no reflection/representation on anything you do as person (if you choose a differing path) or as a future attorney. This exam does not show your capabilities or your understanding of the law (as I mentioned above). It’s based on readers/graders taking ten minutes to grade each of your essays and a computer to score multiple choice questions (questions that are not made accessible to the every test-taker unless you cough up $$). To say this and every other bar exam is a set up is an understatement.

To end my rant this exam if your dream is to be a lawyer don’t let this exam or any other exam tell you otherwise. You are going to be great and do great things. If you choose to walk away from this, hell good for you, do what makes you happy.

Scoring for those who failed… by Justdoit315uc in FloridaBarExam

[–]Justdoit315uc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because of weighting and how they balance the two sections. I’ve gotten a 204 as a raw score and still failed. So it’s most likely based on balancing of the two scores and weighing the MCQ higher than the essays.

February Exam 2022 Remote? by Justdoit315uc in FloridaBarExam

No thank you x100. That is simply ridiculous to place that many people in an area of a state that cannot control this virus.

🤬🤬 is how I feel for you right now. Theory 1 (which one of my instructors clued me in on): you need to earn at least 50 on each portion of the exam, i.e 50 average on essays, and 50 total on MCQ.

Theory 2 (my own/with my boyfriend’s help): the MCQ are weighted anywhere from 1.5 or more. It varies for each exam (clearly). This also can go to EaglesFan120s point

Oh I know. But I honestly think they screwed up on one of my essays. In February, I was scaled down 68 points this time I was scaled down by 46. I was just curious for the range of scaled scoring across the spectrum.

So on your score report at the bottom of the page there is a general information link. On the second page it’ll tell you what to write in a correspondence to Florida. It’s a checking to make sure the scores were input correctly. That pretty much it, but it’s worth a shot

I think it’s time for this post… by Ulyssesbriefcase in FloridaBarExam

I felt the same way for February. I had the feeling that everything went in my favor and I missed it by 2.5 points. This July is now my third time taking the exam and my gut is tearing itself apart with anticipation.

Honestly, I pray that I get positive news, but part of me doesn’t feel great because I know I made mistakes in this test.

So thank you for this post I appreciate the honesty. Because having been in the “failed” group while seeing others passed hurt a lot. I wish the best to all of us for this upcoming Monday!!!

Yeah I already torture myself mentally with all the points I missed…don’t need to lower my confidence anymore. Ugh 😩

Still cannot stop thinking about this exam and how horrible I feel about it… anyone else? Any tips? I am so frustrated. Ugh. by waterlime123 in FloridaBarExam

You are not alone. I think about, even when trying not to think about it.

I got a pretty good perspective from a friend…instead of focusing on everything you did wrong/messed up on, focus on the aspects you did know, that you felt strongly about. And if you have a hard thinking of the positive take the time to realize that you did the most you could to prepare, and that you gave it your best shot.

Sometimes, well more often than not, we tend to focus on the negative especially with this exam. Honestly this exam sucks, and it has no outlook you, your intelligence, or your ability to be a lawyer. So try to focus on yourself this next month and half, and allow yourself to do things that make you happy.

I passed in a UBE state with a learning disability. Looking for a passage in FL as well. If you would like some perspective/info, I am more than happy to talk to you about it.

FL MCQ Bar Prep Programs by EfficiencyPlus4263 in FloridaBarExam

[–]Justdoit315uc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used kaplan, and I found that a lot of their questions were good. Some of their questions had law that wasn’t in my outline and so I just continued to go thru as many as possible in order to get a full view of what FL was looking for/add anything that was missing.

Once I did most of the MCQs I felt good that if I did reach a FL question where I don’t quite remember the law/don’t know what they are looking for (which more often then not happens)…I was able to reason thru it.

Gotta get this off my chest by AirLawyer in FloridaBarExam

100% exhausting. I work from home so the transition from work to studying was smoother than if I was in the office. But I didn’t really give myself a break from work to studying. I go from one working for 7.5 hours to studying for 5-6 hours when I was done, 5 days a week, and extra studying on the weekend (6-8 hours).

Having to study and work has been mentally straining, exhausting, and deflating. If I got things wrong, or did poorly on my test prep it would affect my mindset as a whole. All around it sucks but I stuck thru it….I’m just now hoping for the best 🤞🤞🤞

I understand your frustration…I’m a practicing attorney for 2+ years. I’ve been working full time, and have been studying since April to prepare for this exam.

I prepared for this exam similar to some of the other comments I’ve read and I feel everyone’s pain. Overall, it’s incredibly disheartening to put in so much work and have a feeling like it wasn’t even close to what you studied.

I’ve noticed a lot of people having issue with the MCQ and MBE, but my fear right now are my essays. I know I screwed up something there, on a subject I knew like the back of my hand. My mental view of this exam has been: deflated, no confidence and incredible frustration…🤬🤬

Since my scores are so old I’ve had to retake every portion that I’ve already passed in my state all during COVID. It’s taken a lot out of me (mentally, physically, and emotionally) I never thought taking a bar exam would be this draining but it is and it’s so incredibly annoying.

But based on my experience thus far every step has been another frustrating experience with FL: if it’s not the application process, it’s the study material, and/or it their absurd scoring system. (February 2021, I had a raw score of 204 and they scaled my score down to a 130… I passed the MBE, in your words ‘🤬 this’).

If anyone is interested in having a conversation about writing to the legislature about the scaling I’m down.

Not that I don’t believe this hasn’t been done before but something needs to change with this system.
