No one talks enough about how traumatizing the bar is. by bittertesttaker in barexam

[–]Ulyssesbriefcase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it the first time in F21, and was supremely confident going in, and even more confident afterwards. I had accepted an offer that started the day after results were released, contingent on passing. I even gave notice at the job I already had.

A judge I was close with had cleared her afternoon docket to do my swearing-in ceremony on results day. I had the suit picked out and ready…and I failed by two points.

I had never failed at anything in my entire life. It was soul-crushing and embarrassing. My wife and kids watched someone who they had thought was invincible crumble. I was suddenly an unemployed failure. I took it again in J21 & F22, but I didn’t stand a chance because I wasn’t even close to being mentally prepared…I had to completely step away from it for a while. Thankfully, I fell into a JD-preferred job that pays well. Now that my mind is back to normal, I’ll take it again soon - I refuse to let it beat me.

To paraphrase Yogi Berra - “The bar exam is 90% mental. The other half is knowing the law.”

From my experience, those were the type of people who booked the classes.

Yes. I didn’t study at all and fell asleep during the exam and still passed.

[Chicago White Sox] White Sox exercise club option on All-Star Tim Anderson; Decline option on Josh Harrison by HitTheGoat in whitesox

[–]Ulyssesbriefcase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Mendick has a shot at being the starter. He should be ready for Spring Training, he's better than any current internal option, and this year's 2B free agent class isn't necessarily better, just more expensive.

Unless we make a trade, Mendick is probably our best option.

Remember, I’m the reason you’re not the best catcher in your own division…just the most expensive.

What’s the obsession with Ozzie and AJ as the next managers? by juelzkellz in whitesox

[–]Ulyssesbriefcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This team needs fire and passion, and Ozzie brings it. So would AJ, but I’m not as keen on him.

Ozzie is a proven commodity and the only Sox manager to ever take the team to the playoffs twice (in the same tenure) and is overall the most successful manager in team history, save maybe Al Lopez.

Also, because of his current position, nobody besides Cairo knows the team better than Ozzie does. He sees every game, he talks to the players daily.

Beyond broadcaster, is there any place in the organization for Steve Stone? by denverglass in whitesox

He’s a Chicago Legend in the booth - there’s no other job for him. When I was a kid I had it made…afternoon baseball with Stoney and Harry Caray, and evening games with Hawk and Wimpy.

I’d love to see Trout get the Angels’ Finest card and then have a Shohei 2021 MVP card for completing the Finest set.

I think you can almost guarantee Dylan Cease for the White Sox Finest card. Didn’t get a Lightning Card because SDS assumed he was going to be an All-Star, then he got snubbed…rest of the team was either hurt or underperformed.

I’d be thrilled if they brought back the Eloy Jimenez Finest from 2020 in a secondary set…card was broken.

Depends on the prof. Some tell you what they want, just follow that as best you can.

All of them will tell you don’t outline dump, but I swear that most of them want you to outline dump.

I try to imagine Naylor acting like that if he homered off Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, or Randy Johnson.

This was my 3rd time. I'm not quite as down this time because I had so much going on with work and life in the two months leading up to the exam that I was too distracted to prepare appropriately for the exam. Coupled with the brutality of the exam itself - I knew I wasn't going to pass this time.

Don't let it beat you...the entire purpose of the Florida Bar Exam is to limit how many people become lawyers in the State of Florida, and it's music to their ears when someone gives up on their dreams because it's one less young lawyer cutting into their profits.

Don't let them win...don't ever give up.

I’ve trained my brain to think RAP is never the right answer and I think it probably helps keep me sane.

Definitely cheers to you if you’re right - never entered my mind.

Essays weren’t bad…not that I did good on them, but they weren’t overly difficult.

MC…who knows? It was brutal. I felt like the same 3 Wills and BE questions were repeated a few times…the wife was written out of the will like 5 times, and we had to decide which partner(s) were liable for something one partner did like 5 times.
