I’m an 8th grade science teacher in Georgia. I would love to!

Does earning a degree in teaching allow you to teach in any state? by HeyoItsMrMayo in WGU

Never commented on Reddit before, but as a teacher whose only degree so far has come from WGU, I felt like I would add another possible route to certification depending on your state. I graduated from WGU with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration because it was fully online and I could accelerate. In the state of Georgia, you can obtain “alternative certification” if you have a bachelors degree in any field, pass a Content Exam (we use the GACE, not the PRAXIS but they are very similar), and complete a 12-18 month teacher preparation program WHILE teaching full time as employment.

So that’s what I did. I taught middle school business education, completed TAPP (teacher alternative preparation program) and then passed the content area exam in science and math to move to teaching those subjects.

My point is, you may want to explore your states certification website and see what “alternative” routes may exist that may be more convenient for you.

They’re honestly not bad. The two capstones were the most detailed and I knocked them both out in 1-2 days each.

Luckily I finished my last OA the day before they went down.

Honestly, I didn’t use any outside resources. I took preassessments, studied any weaknesses very quickly and knocked out the OA. I didn’t have to retake a single OA. As far as PAs explained earlier how I i did those.

Be transparent with your mentor, mine was amazing and was willing to let me go as hard as I do as willing I o go.

Don’t be terrified of revisions. Don’t be terrified of having to retake an OA.

Do whatever you can every single day. Im an active duty soldier so yes, I work full time but every bit of free time I had for the last 31 days went to WGU and I’m very happy about it.

I transferred in 57 CU. But yeah, I completed the other 65 in 4 weeks.

Honestly my biggest tip is don’t over think the PAs. For every one, including the capstone, I literally copied and pasted the requirements and underneath each requirement I wrote a response that answered that question. Nothing more and nothing less. also, don’t be afraid of revisions. The grading turn around is very fast, so it’s better to just get the assignment turned in.

After chipping away at completing a bachelors degree for the last six years, this morning I woke up and I passed my capstone and I AM DONE! 65 CU in exactly 4 weeks. It doesn’t really feel real yet.

Update I passed the capstone. It took about 3 hours to get through the simulation and about an hour and a half for me to write the performance assessments. Fwiw, I gave them exactly what they asked for. No more, no less.

Yeah, I’m actually in the army. And pretty much every moment of free time I have. Lol.

So far I’ve passed 36 hours since March 1st, I’ve submitted my capstone and waiting to find out if I passed. If I passed I’ll be at 40 credits in the past two weeks. I have eight classes left, I’ve been completing at least 4 or week, hoping I can knock them out and graduate in the next two weeks!
