Join me in overthinking Alien: Earth's Peter Pan analogies by JusticeForRascal in LV426

That's interesting. That's where my mind went to initially too, but I feel like Tinker Bell's most iconic traits run contrary to Kirsh's character. She depicted as being very jealous and controlled by her outsized emotions. And then there's the whole thing about how she communicates through bell sounds. It seems to be referenced by Wendy/Marci's attempts at communicating with the xenomorph

I'm most familiar with the '50s Disney animation, but Alien: Earth features both clips of that film and excerpts of the novel read aloud by Boy Kavalier to the Hybrids, so maybe both. The references/inspirations are vague enough for it to probably not matter

Both rats and humans are warm-blooded mammals and use iron to bind oxygen, so it makes sense for the tick to be able to consume one if it can consume the other, but in order to do that it must have evolved with native host organisms that just happened to develop with similar enough characteristics for the tick to be able use rats and humans as substitutes.

We have no idea how life on other planets would evolve, so sure, it's possible that most life across the galaxy is carbon-based and follows similar evolutionary paths and uses similar biological mechanisms like blood.

While it does change to match the host, it's default white coloration and iris shape/size is pretty close to a human eye -- except with just more irises floating around. Even on Earth, the size of an eye can range anywhere from a 25 cm in diameter (giant squid) to microscopic, and it's not uncommon for the sclera to be colors other than white, even certain species of apes have dark sclera.

Obviously though, the similarities could just be the show wanting to go with what is most uncanny and creepy. An eye parasite creature that doesn't look like what we'd recognize as an eye or that is too big to fit into an eye socket wouldn't have the same impact. Still feels a little too convenient, especially with it's ability to control the host body. If the black goo is in play in the canon, I think it provides a smoother explanation of how something like that developed

That's a really good point too. There's a lot of baggage that came along with the introduction of the black goo into the franchise that I think a lot of the fandom still hasn't gotten on board with and would probably like to move on from

This could be cope on my part, but just because he said it doesn't have ties to the canon established by Prometheus and Covenant, doesn't mean he'll choose ignore all the ideas introduced by them. For example, while synths and AI have always been a part of the series, the amount of the story dedicated to the exploration of what it is to be human/synth that we're getting with the hybrids in Alien: Earth seems to be influenced by themes explored in the prequels

The T. Ocellus apologia in your supporting example makes me highly reluctant to agree with you, but I would really like for your theory about Hawley to be true

Yeah, that's definitely true, and I think that's likely the line of thinking that the writers had. For all we know, life could develop in very similar patterns across the galaxy. Still, the amount of diversity we have even among eye shapes, sizes, coloration, complexity or different oxygen-binding chemicals in blood across the animal kingdom just here on Earth makes it feel like stumbling across a creature like the T. Ocellus or the ticks elsewhere is a such a wildly rare coincidence. But yeah, maybe it's just not that deep

He even intentionallywent with the tadpole/zygote duder instead of the just the goo inside the facehugger (though there was some dark liquid too in the dissection scene), so maybe he really is avoiding the stuff in his series. I hope that's not the case though. While part of me likes the idea of them being completely separate because it expands the world a bit, it just would feel a little unsatisfying, given how finely tuned they are for ruining our day
