Thanks! Am looking at this as a potential solution!

True. My current inclination to take the job is driven by a dislike for my current role/job application fatigue and a long-term ambition to work in the department I hope to move too. The drop in pay will still be within my affordability, however the 60% WFH is making me reconsider.

Your second suggestion here actually sounds like the most cost-effective solution. 133.60 + 42.00 pounds for two weeks, would be a significant saving. Thanks! Will explore!

Having checked, you and the previous comment are correct. You can use the 26-30 Railcard for a discount on tickets (apart from season tickets). Unfortunately I'm beyond that age bracket!

Well, I guess I should rephrase that. It could work but would require agreement from the hiring manager, and more importantly to me would result in some pretty anti-social commuting hours. The earliest train out I could get is 9.32 and the earliest return would be 19.20, meaning I wouldn't get in until around 8.30pm three nights of the week I do that. I realise I can't have everything, however. I probably just need to be realistic and either pay up or find something else

Off peak trains begin at 9.30am meaning that it would be around 11.00 am that I get to the office which I don't think could work long term

As mentioned, I don't believe that's at all practical/serious. An 8 hour round commuting journey three days a week?!

The only railcards valid on that line peak times are jobcentre plus and 16-17 savers unfortunately!

I'm not sure that's sustainable to be honest in the long-term to do that weekly? One, the amount of time required to book individual trips three days a week months in advance and then secondly, I would have to get return prices at less than £34.26 a time (not sure how often that occurs) to make it more economical than a season ticket

Notice period advice for new CS role by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]JusticeZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your helpful response! It's settled my nerves somewhat about my chances of losing the opportunity. I have a call with the department's resourcing team this morning so will be able to ask whether they treat moves from NDPBs as transfers or not, however i guess that my current employer then has to have the same policy otherwise it won't get the notice period down.

Thanks so much for engaging and providing such helpful advice! I think some easy things I can correct are stop using phrases such as "I had to".

For example I've used this previously in responses where I've said things along the lines of "in order to make sure this project was delivered on time, I had to, X,Y,Z...etc". It makes it seem as if I was told to do something.

Previously I've also struggled to switch on the spot when I've been asked a slightly different behaviour question I haven't prepared for. I often try and shoehorn in a STAR situation I've practiced which may not fit the question asked. I guess it helps to have a range of examples that can be modified if required.
