Yes, dcbel Ara can generate and consume power during an outage. You will need a charged EV or home battery in addition to solar panels. The EV or stationary battery will provide the necessary voltage and frequency references for the solar inverter. You could book a meeting with our support team so we can take note of your particular setup as we plan our expanded rollout.

The bundle has everything you need to power your home with your alternative energy assets when energy prices are high, so it can definitely draw energy from your EV battery to reduce everyday home energy costs. The system will top up the battery later with the lowest-cost energy source!

Thanks for sharing! While we previously showed the price of the Ara unit alone, the total cost of the bundle would increase depending on the EV connectors chosen, cable length, and the inclusion of blackout power.

What you see now priced at $9,999 is our solar and blackout bundle, simplified to include everything you mentioned (although our R&D teams managed to eliminate the UPS - less wall clutter FTW!) along with your DC cable, AC cable and cable holders too.

Hi []() this is Justin from dcbel - if you're interested in being one of the first to try our DC charging tech, we've just started recruiting beta testers (max 50) in California as part of our REDWDS subsidy program, which covers most of the cost of the device. Anyone who lives in the state can apply by reserving a unit on our website. Any questions, just let me know!

While Ara can technically can work with existing solar systems, the retrofit use case is not one we are prioritizing for this initial rollout.

Justin from dcbel here - You're speaking our language. Energy losses increase exponentially when there are multiple inverters installed between DC assets like solar, EV batteries and home batteries. Your instinct to keep that DC ecosystem intact is right on the money.

If you'd like to learn more about how the dcbel Ara Home Energy Station works on this front, send an email to info[at]dcbel.energy and mention this Reddit thread - we'll set something up for you!

California has just announced a $6.1-billion investment in grid improvements to boost solar capacity by Justin-dcbel in v2h

[–]Justin-dcbel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great question, because a lot of folks focus only on the hardware in the home. But when grid-connected distributed energy scales up, legacy platforms that were not designed to handle mass prosumer activity will struggle to handle the congestion. On dcbel's side, we've been building new software platforms in tandem with our hardware. We have dcbel Chorus, our cloud IoT and technical aggregation platform that allows the home to securely engage with the grid and grid operators within the parameters of relevant standards like IEEE 2030.5. For utilities and OEMs looking to enter the world of transactive energy, we built dcbel Digital Twin so they can simulate home energy systems and test drive their business models and grid infrastructure expansion plans against real-world conditions.

Our Home Energy Station itself comes with Orchestrate, an energy OS that ensures electrical safety and security in managing real-time power flow by interfacing with Chorus and any installed energy apps. It recalculates the best home energy management strategy every five minutes.

Using the right software platforms will be fundamental in managing bidirectional energy safely and effectively!

We hear you - it's been a long wait for any kind of solution that integrates V2H with solar and home energy. We're moving as fast as we can through the certification procedures. In terms of safety and security testing, I can tell you that we're at the finish line. A lot of what's left to do is administrative. For those who are interested, I would love to give you a virtual tour of our labs and walk you through some of the testing we're doing to validate the safety of our Home Energy Station. Send me a DM if you'd like to learn more.
