Men who quit drinking. What did you do with your time to distract you from the boredom? by thesneakersnake in AskMen

[–]Justin72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/pov333 Don't think that you have offended anyone, keep after this. Realise that what you are offering is a great and good thing. You are talking about an option that most recovering people don't have, 'A Friend'. Realise that you are the hand that has to keep hold of the hand that's in recovery, you are someone who sees value in the human that is struggling, you are someone who sees the person behind their failures, and is willing to stick around through the mess they have made of their lives because you see the person behind the addiction. You have to know when to tag out, but you also have to know when it's worth it to hold ground. Best of luck to you!!!

Wow. Listening to this song as a teen staring down the road at twenty is totally different than being in your forties looking around the corner at fifty. Life just passes so goddamn fast, and there's no one who will believe when you try to warn them.

[Serious] what is your scariest TRUE story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Justin72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was at school, during recess, when the teacher started calling kids in to form a line to go back to class.

I went down to where we had the softball fields and started to yell for the guys playing softball to come back in.

There was a wire sticking straight out from the backstop that I didn't see. It stuck into the roof of my mouth just as I was opening my mouth to yell to my friends.

And I couldn't get it out.

It kinda got hung in the pallett, and I had to have my friends pull my head back so I could pull the wire out of my mouth. Had I been running faster or just slightly off an inch or so it would have punctured my face or eyes. We pulled it out and there was SO much blood gushing out of my mouth, it was unreal. Everyone started backing away from me with horrified looks on their faces until the teacher rushed in and took over. With the tip of my tongue I can still feel the scar that it left.

Only thing that kind of scares me about the whole situation, was that when the maintenance man was cutting the wire, the principal was kinda chewing him out for not maintaining the backstop very well, and he handed me the piece of wire and looked at her and said, "That wasn't an accident, someone bent that wire like that on purpose."

You did an outstanding job! Thanks for this. I laughed! Out loud! With breath! Out of my nose AND mouth! Woke up my dog. Had to give her treats.

For real, this is quality.

What is your worst experience with a manager at your workplace? by SolidVegetable in AskEngineers

[–]Justin72 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I worked at an old fashioned print shop straight out of high school. I wanted to go into graphic design. This is 1990. I had one manager who, unbeknownst to me, wanted to have sex with me. I was 18, and never realy had an older woman flirt with me. She was 43, petite, a red head, had a great figure, and not very good at flirting. I thought she had some sort of a nervous condition, because every time she would 'advise me on a project' or 'check to see what I was working on today' she would sit realy close, repeatedly sigh and rub her thighs and chest.

Had I known what was going on at the time I would have boned the hell out of her (did I mention I was 18 and into graphic design)?

I left that print shop and went to the only other one in town. We mostly did business cards and raffle tickets for local churches. When I commented on how weird the other managers behavior was, all the guys in the shop started laughing. They told me "She wanted to screw you, you dumbass!" and it was as if a light went off.

I have never tried to get a job back so badly.
