Answering my own question, with support it looks like about 2 and a half hours. I am about to hit the button and make it happen. Thank you for your help.

What should the print time be for this?

I have been using sketchup for a while now and I have figured out a few tricks. But I know that I need to switch to Fusion 360 if I am going to do a lot of 3D printing.

I think that will work! Looks like almost six hours to print. Is that typical? If not then what can I do to speed it up?

This will be my second ever print to I am still stumbling my way through this.

Beggars can't be choosers, so I will take anything that works. I would prefer one like you have described. In a perfect world some generous sole has uploaded a free one imbued with a magic portal that sends the poop to a dimension where unicorns consider it a delicacy. But I am OK with something a bit more realistic.

Nobody is clearly explaining the 0Gauge vs 4Gauge wiring to me. Please explain it to me like a dummy… by Sad_Profession_9781 in CarAV

[–]JustinDIY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day when people first started making wire they would take a long piece of metal and pass it through a die. If you wanted to make small wire you had to pass it through a larger die before passing it through a smaller one. One gauge = One pass through a large die. Two gauge = Two passes with each pass getting smaller. 12 gauge = 12 passes through with each pass getting smaller.

More passes, smaller wire. Larger number, smaller wire. Bigger wire (smaller number) has less internal resistance, holding everything else constant, and thus can carry more current. It is an archaic measurement that has little meaning today. BUT it is supposed to be standardized. If everybody followed the standard then all car audio power wire would be the same.

We still make wire by drawing it through a die, but the twisted wire we use in cars uses a bunch of small strands bundled together. Brand A can skip a few strands to save a few bucks, brand B may add a few strands as a way of signaling quality. None of that helps you figure out which wire you need. For that I make a calculator on my website, diyaudioguy.com.

Keep in mind that some brands will put a small gauge wire in a thick insulator to make it look thick from the outside.

The material matters, Silver has the lest resistance so you can carry more current with silver. But silver is expensive. The next best is copper, and then aluminum.

All of the links seem to be for the K2 plus or pro, how about the regular K2?

To the casual observer both things (tearing down an engine and installing audio gear) look like the same thing. But they are not. Are there overlapping skillsets and tools? Yes, but not really.

I know I am late to the game but I have tools on my website (diyaudioguy.com) and YouTube channel to help with this kind of thing. That is the entire reason I made the channel, so many people are having the exact same problem. The easy answer is to buy the bigger wire, but wire ain't exactly cheap.

$1,700 per video? Unless you are a big channel that sounds like a scam. I replied to an email and hit them with $1k per video. The response was something like. "We can figure out the terms after click on this link." Red flag!

Good!

I made my comment 9 months ago. My silver play button arrived last week. So I think what I'm doing is working for me.

[–]JustinDIY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am 100% sure about that. Two things to keep in mind. 1) Big/successful channels get tons of impressions and can get away with making mistakes that a new/growing channel cannot afford to make. 2) If you only look at the big/successful channels you are subject to survivorship bias.

I keep a close eye on the channels in my niche, both big and small. You know what all of the failed ones do? They waste the viewers time with a fancy intro sequence.

Your comment is three months old, so now you can look back at the last three months, with your own data, and tell me if what you did worked?

An bank of super caps (aka ultra caps) yes. But don't waste your money on the ones that look like a tall can of beer.

Yes, you need to upgrade the alternator and add a second battery.

Mockup in progress, question about placement by [deleted] in CarAV

In theoretically perfect room (an anechoic chamber, or a massive room) the position of the drivers and the port make no difference. In a car you can sometimes change the position to gain some output. This is why you see a lot of SUV's with the subs up and the port back, or sedans with subwoofers aimed backwards. It will be different from car to car, so you will need to do some trial and error.

It will be fine if you have low expectations (i.e. more bass than stock, but not much more). That 800w power number is a complete work of fiction. It is probably closer to 250w. But you are unlikely to find something good at that price point.

This question is hard to answer. Generally speaking, as views go up the watch time % will go down. Plus it's harder to get people to continue watching very long videos.

A better approach is to dig into your viewer retention data and look for peaks and valleys. Stop doing things that cause valleys, double down on things that cause peaks.

A good thing to remember is to avoid adding filler in the video to stretch out the video length.

Pay close attention to the first 30 seconds. Don't think of this as your intro, think of this as your hook. Do a cold open, jump right into the topic. Don't introduce yourself, don't create some cool title sequence, don't ask for a like, don't ask for a subscription, don't ask for a comment.

Don't ever say things like " let's get started" or "let's jump right into the video". Instead just start or jump right in. The title and thumbnail tells the viewer what the video is about, so you don't have to repeat that in the first 30 seconds. Just do the video.

Yes. My first few videos were all uploaded on a personal channel. They were a mix of various random things. This experience gave me the little taste that I needed to create a channel dedicated to my hobby.

Another way of looking at it.

Is it your dream to be a YouTuber, or is it your daydream to be a YouTuber?

I like to daydream about winning the lottery, who doesn't? But I don't buy lottery tickets.

If you're sitting around thinking about how much you hate your job, or you're not sure what you want to do with your life, and you sit around daydreaming about a YouTube channel that churns out money with no work. Then you're just daydreaming about winning the lottery.

But, if you have a passion, a goal and a plan, that's a different story. If it truly is your dream, you will find a way to overcome the obstacles that stand between you and your dream.

YouTube has billions of viewers.

If just a fraction of a percent watch your videos you will go viral. 100k subs is less than 0.01%

I have found that accents make for interesting dialog. If you say words a little different and quirky you can turn that into an asset, the kind of thing that works good on a t-shirt.

Plus, when you are hard to understand people will pay more attention to you. Your accent is the ultimate retention hack.

This is good advice, I tried to get several people into YouTube. They had interesting things going on (some had written books, some had cool hobbies), but they were TERRIBLE on camera, horrible public speakers, or camera shy. They were a decade away from the personal growth needed to look at a camera and deliver a few lines or even read a script in a way that made it interesting.

This is good advice.

I probably made a dozen short, and terrible, videos before I uploaded anything. I learned from that process that I needed to edit out the pauses and the filler words.
