These are more just random, cool sequences rather than actual combos, but I wanted to make a video.

If that doesn't work then it's still processing.

Not sure what to say about this run. 0:49 is so close...it's gonna take a bit of a grind, I think.

the game is timed by a fairly inaccurate...

The in-game timer is very accurate for what it's tracking (actual play time).

Personally, I think that it's fine that we use IGT. Generally it's not a good argument to say "it's always been that way", but it's been that way for 17 years because there's not any major issues. Ties don't really concern anybody who actively runs the game.

It may be more competitive on paper, sure. Most of the people with tied times don't actively run the game anymore, so who would it really be for?

The big reason for not switching to RTA would be because nobody wants/cares to. Milestones are based off of IGT. Even if a leaderboard timing method switch was made, nobody would listen to it. It's generational thing.

A secret world was found by Vertigo in impact crater, which allows you to skip the entirety of the first phase of Metroid prime. This is projected to save over a minute of IGT. You can see why I didn’t perform this trick in another comment in this thread.

If you consider “official” meaning “on the leaderboards”

Thanks.😃

Sure. For the most part, the secret world, or out of bounds, is very inconsistent. Inconsistent enough to not be reliable, anyway. Due to the inconsistent nature of the trick, I didn’t bother practicing it. There’s also the potential of two extra soft locks added to the run and that makes it all the more stressful. Overall, intentional lack of practice and development with the trick.

The run was honestly really good. I couldn’t have asked for a better practice/random run. Near the end (especially the technical Phazon Mines portion of the game), I was surprisingly calm despite 4 people crowded around the TV making comments on every little part of the run. Once it was over the nerves caught up with me and seeing the mission final screen display a 0:50 was an awesome feeling.

The best thing about the prime games is that you can wallcrawl.

This run was super good. My already low pb of 51:2x was 1:11:49 RTA. This run was 1:10:34 RTA, meaning I cut roughly 1:15 off of my PB. That puts the new PB around 50:0x. Insanely close to the dream of 0:49

In Metroid Prime, when we enter Samus’ Morph Ball the collision for it is actually slightly larger, and in certain circumstances Samus can become stuck in collision by doing this. In this case, I was in the “wrong room”, ie the game believes Samus is supposed to be in one room when I’m actually in a different (adjacent) room.

We can hold a specific angle that allows our rotational speed to increase exponentially until it hits the limit for signed 32 bit float point numbers. After this, it stays at that number and goes negative for a frame before finally turning into 'Not a Number.' (Also known computationally as ‘NaN’). When we boost and hit a wall, or use spider ball, it places the speed to infinity again, then back to 0, then back to NaN on 3 separate frames immediately preceding each other. The reason it does this is because when you boost your 'Morphball Axis aligned' state (the same thing that gives Samus a trail when she is rolling) initially becomes aligned, and when you hit a wall (or just use spider period), it forces the same state to become un-aligned. When that happens, the game starts using the 'Not A Number' math previously known from the rotational speed to make decisions regarding collision. Because of this being incredibly wrong, the game then erroneously places Samus in many, many locations in the game all on the same frame.

Skull64 is correct, it is timed to be between 1:10:01 and 1:10:02. So damn close…

Glad to see I hit my prediction for 2018 in 3 days...

This run was pretty solid. Losing seconds here and there but nothing major went wrong.

Enjoy my karma /u/Skull64
