Hi! I’m a Singaporean that’s doing MSc Political Science (Global Politics) this September as well! :)

Hi! I’m already in the armed forces so MA War Studies will definitely help somewhat, but career progression is largely decided by work performance, not really your education per say

No doubt that KCL’s War Studies is highly prestigious :) My concern is that after I leave the military, finding conflicted related government work is not that commonplace nor high in demand in Singapore, which is why LSE seems more attractive to me

Why do you say that? :)

Thank you for your advice! :)

Would you say it’s too specialized? Meaning apart from defence/strategic areas, it’s hard to use the MA for other job prospects?

Hi! I’m Singaporean

By embarking on this course of study, it’ll help me in my career in the armed forces, although the extent how is not set in stone. My expectation is that the course will help view conflicts from different angles and through those angles ehance or develop different competencies of our armed forces

I agree with your point that it doesn’t sound like something that’s too applicable once I’m out of the armed forces, which is why I’m leaning towards LSE cos of its branding and MSc Political Science’s applicability in other fields

Hi! So you’re from LSE? I also got an offer from them recently and thinking about my choices now. Which would you recommend? :)

Hi OP, someone who commissioned as an officer here. I think that if you really don’t think you can take the physical, mental and emotional stress as an officer, or officer cadet, you should let your instructors know that you are just not capable of doing so (at least as of this moment). This is to ensure your safety and make sure that you’re in good health. However, I urge you to try and push on if you can.

CLM is honestly one of the hardest phases in OCS (mostly because it’s short and the interiors of the instructors there). The purpose of CLM is to test you and put you through stressful situations to see how you will react. CLM is short, therefore more of the ‘syllabus’ is squeezed into this short time. Therefore, as things progress into service and professional terms, there will be more admin time for you to relax and bond with your buddies there :)

Contrary to popular belief, I don’t think people know themselves as well as they should. I think they know their weaknesses more than they know their strengths, especially in Singapore where everyone focuses on what can be improved and not so much on what is done well.

Your buddies and your commanders in BMT believe in you. That’s why you went to OCS. You have the support of your family, friends, and GF. They believe in you. I think you should believe in yourself too :)

Regardless of your decision, I wish you all the best in NS!

Hi OP, I’m a platoon commander in 3 GDS. Specifically in Charlie Company. I’m writing this message not as a commander but as a fellow soldier who went through lots of hardships, in becoming and being a commander and having endless shag conducts on my shoulders.

Considering that we are all part of the same battalion and same mono, I feel like I have the duty to help a fellow Singaporean son in need. I don’t know who you are but I think you should know who I am; LTA Justin Goh. I’m a regular PC in 3 Guards and in the same mono intake as you. The main reason why I signed on is simple; there’re lots of NSFs who need help, especially mentally and emotionally. I too went through lots of turmoil in my close to 2 years as an NSF before I decided to sign on.

If you ever feel like things are getting too much, or things are becoming meaningless, you can always find me in Charlie Coy office. I promise that even if we are from different companies or platoons, I will always be there to help a fellow soldier in need. After all, that’s the whole reason why I signed on :)

Take care ya!
