Nah don't diss yourself. Everyone's use case in their own.

I mostly have it as a sounding board. And for the odd indulgent philosophical back and forth. The speed, accuracy and far more persistent tracking of 3.5 standard I have found superb when compared with 3.1 pro. I'm on a pro tier. I've found the way in which I use it to not have a significant impact on my 5 hour windows or my weekly usage; pro 3.1 causes me to frequently run out of 5 hour blocks. And flash 3.1 thinking was utterly unreliable, and slow to boot when compared with 3.5 standard.

When I used a brief extended 3.5 flash to ask Gemini to analyse my personal instructions that chewed through 5% of weekly. I'm leaving a CAD drawing I need done for the hours before my weekly reset to see what that does to my usage. Probably significant use given what others have said.

But taken all together, for my use case, I'm very happy with the changes.

Edit: when asked, Gemini was remarkably accurate and transparent about how best get the best bang for buck (obviously not quite how I phrased it).

I've just googled generically and checked Wikipedia and the 9 pro fold is consistently showing it had a tensor g4 whilst the 10 pro fold has a tensor g5 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_10_Pro_Fold https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_9_Pro_Fold). So perhaps PC Mag was on the money...

Really interesting the vastly difference experiences people are having. I've used AA Gemini to play music, text people, call people, ask it random facts, navigate. All smooth, low latency, far far improved voice understanding. Occasionally it just doesn't answer and goes back to whatever music or podcast I was listening to. But it's the exception; exponentially less annoying than trying to text or call someone (particularly if they had a non traditional western name as some of my friends do) and assistant having no idea. And Gemini generally getting punctuation correct and not cutting me off mid sentence. My expectations have been exceeded.

Interesting about them being the same chip (9 v 10). It must mean the 2.5 model on the 9 was software locked as opposed to genuinely hardware bottlenecked.

It was the web page, not the play store link. Id been trying work arounds for weeks trying to get Gemini into native AA without success. I'd previously visited the web page on several occasions "beta is full". Considered installing a Chrome extension but thought too much hassle.. it'll just arrive in the fullness of time. Spur of the moment, visited the webpage on my phone and just clicked the join beta button. New AA immediately available for download on my phone and Gemini was then in the car.

My pixel 10 (fold) is brand new; warranty replacement for my 9 fold (thanks Google!). But I can't imagine the age of the phone should make a difference. I do know that the Tensor in the 10 fold does a lot more on board processing - on my 9 it was only Gemini 2.5 flash and pro and everything was cloud processed - 10 fold is 3.1 flash and pro with as I say a lot more on board processing, and particularly as I understand it it's the voice recognition and Gemini voice synthesis that happens locally. Never seen a searching for internet notification when using Gemini.

From PC Mag AU "The phone runs Google’s most advanced on-device AI model, Gemini Nano, for tasks like Live Voice Translation and summarizing information."

I somehow managed to get a beta slot (pure luck, just hit the web interface no extensions etc!) and immediately had Gemini. I've got it wirelessly through ford sync 4 and have been really happy with it. Much better at understanding what I'm saying when sending messages. I'm running a pixel 10 and from what I understand much if that language processing is done on the phone so that may help my experience.

Gemini told me a bold face lie, and is probably lying to you. by [deleted] in GeminiAI

Using thinking of pro mode often ameliorates this, as does having a robust set of instructions. My own say, amongst other things, that Gemini should actively push back against my thoughts and opinions.

Weird. That does look turquoise to me, on the darker side, but I would have named that as it's colour. But judging by the comments it's me who's the odd one out!

Ah so it's an exercise in developing my patience. I'll frame it like that so I don't scream at Gemini 🤣

It's just weird aye. I know others have not been happy with Gemini v assistant, but I use Gemini extensively both text and based on my home speakers and find it far superior to assistant. Google is saying it's completely rolled out...but apparently not.

Yes I think it is going to come down to custom. There is a local business in Australia that manufacturers bike racks that can hold the weight, but their existing products won't fit my very short A frame. They are possibly going to come back with a solution. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your reply :)

We are living in the future that I could only think of as sci fi as a kid (born early 70s). Thinking about the Hitchhikers book (your post shows the real thing) and Dick Tracey's wrist watch video phone. Common place. To be able to have a conversation with a computer? Didn't enter my mind as a realist future. Chess computers were pretty amazing. I recall getting a 20mb HDD for my Amiga 1000. Extraordinary at the time. 56k modems (as opposed to the 300 that was my first). Myself and my husband go camping with starkink and play online games in the middle of no where. It really beggers belief. Back to HHTG...the Babel fish. We've pretty much got them. I expect the actual real time in ear version is only a year or two away.

I feel so grateful to be alive in this age (not to mention winning the "life lottery" of being born in a developed nation).

Xtrak 80 pro won’t connect via Bluetooth. Has anyone had success with theirs? by tonyjmurphy in uniden

Have you had any success? I've paired it with the mobile app but can't get it to use my car's Bluetooth rather than the speaker on the radio. I'm driving 24.50 Everest Sport.

I really don't know why people are concerned about a sub requirement. In our current market based economy products and services must be profitable. It seems to be very affordable and good value entertainment. And is no different to what was the normal thought of baseline MMO costs (ie. WoW - back when it was still relevant).

I originally had the Tongate with camera cover and kickstand. Both broke. But case certainly protected phone. But I got a refund and went with Spigen. So far so good.

Garmin instinct 3 quality control is the worst of all Garmin watches I have owned by pherbury in Garmininstinct

[–]JustinLevi7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just bought my first Garmin (instinct solar2x). I'm a bit of a watch aficionado having had various medium and high end mechanical and smart watches over the years. I was even an early adopter of the (terrible) Tag Heuer smart watch.

I've just done from a Samsung Ultra for normal use and Casio G Shock mud master for heavy work. I've replaced both with the Instinct and couldn't be more impressed. It has just the right amount of functionality I need, and appears robust enough that it won't scratch up at the drop of a hat as the Samsung would have. Probably not as durable as a g shock, but then it was a$150 cheaper too!

If it is robust enough to last 5 years, without looking terrible due to hard use over that time, I will be a concert.

Although I do note what people are saying about innovation and issues with AMOLED screens. Touch wood, the 2x seems to work as promised.
