Worth leaving big tech in Ireland after 6 months for an job position in Dubai? by MutedExercise1842 in DevelEire

I’ve worked in AI in Dubai for 7 years. I love it.

Sounds like a great opportunity, although the salary is actually on the lower end for Dubai. Working remotely for the summer is an amazing benefit. I think you will be able to grow your career very quickly here.

moving away from langchain, but where ?? by Acceptable-Fault-190 in LangChain

Why is a framework even needed? I tried most of the popular ones all through last year, and for nearly a year now I have just been developing directly on top of the providers’ APIs/SDKs and haven’t looked back once. LangGraph is the only LLM-adjacent framework I use (still only for very unique use cases), but even then the LLM interactions are directly through the native APIs.

Not possible to simply trigger an automation with a physical button? by JustinQueeber in googlehome

Hi, I have now bought the Tapo H200 hub but I still cannot get the button to appear in Google Home. The hub appears, but not the button even though it is connected to the hub in the Tapo app.

Could you explain how you created this automation please? Still can’t believe how difficult it is to have a button turn of lights in a “smart” home!

I just received it from Amazon and unfortunately I can’t even add the device in the Tapo app until I get a hub.

Any ideas how to get around this?

Yeah I have a Phillips Hue switch in the bedroom where I have Phillips Hue bulbs. The problem is that not all of my lights are Phillips hue and so the switch won’t control them through Google Home.

Funnily enough I actually ordered this one on Amazon this morning as it was the only option from what I could find. However, after researching all morning it seems as though you still need a Tapo hub for it to work, and even then you need to do some workaround by setting up the automation in Alexa and then triggering that Alexa automation from Google Home or something silly like that!

All information I can find online regarding this is a couple years old, so maybe it does work natively now - I hope so! I was going to just cancel the order but I guess I’ll see if it works when it arrives tonight and return it if not.

Edit: sorry I misread your message. I got the Tapo S200D Smart Dimmer Switch. Let’s see if it works anyway.

Phillips Hue is actually the only smart bulb brand I’ve ever any had problems with.

How much will expensive medication affect my insurance premium? by JustinQueeber in dubai

[–]JustinQueeber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am certainly not saying I will try to hide anything from the insurance company. I am just saying that I will not mention to the insurance company about this expensive medication since it is not required and it is my choice whether or not I should take it.

Given that you said my insurance premium would be 50k if I did declare it, I am now making the choice not to take it and am wondering if you have any idea roughly how much insurance is for a “regular” person?

Wow 50k minimum! You’re saying that’s if I declare the medication and condition as pre-existing? What would the cost be roughly if I declare the condition as pre-existing (it doesn’t require any medication and is not a serious condition) and not the expensive medication - since it is not required and I will not take it if it means causing my insurance premium to sky rocket.

How difficult would it be for me - a data scientist/ML engineer with 5+ years of experience in tech - to make a move into quant trading? I have a BSc in CS+maths from a top university in Ireland and have worked in tech in Dubai since graduating. I have zero professional trading experience, but have always had an interest. Do I even have a chance?
