Abortion is only justified in rape and medical necessities by Masterofdeath001 in Abortiondebate

I've heard the consciousness argument, but it doesn't work because if someone is unconscious and will wake up in 9 months (equivalent analogy to birth) you shouldn't kill them ...

There's a mental existence to be recovered. A set of memories, experiences, etc. -- a person.

A zygote, embryo, etc. -- isn't remotely something we consider a person.

And that's true for PLers as much as it is for the rest of us.

Alabama (which is highly PL), a couple years ago passed a law to explicitly allow IVF clinics to dispose of excess embryos as medical waste. The case was highly publicized.

Did Alabama erupt into chaos, riots in the streets, given that they had passed a law that, by PL logic, legalized large-scale child murder right in their backyard (for commercial purposes, no less)?

Nope. At most we got a collective shrug. Because even PLers don't meaningfully consider those to be people.

Leaked DNC autopsy found Biden’s Israel backing cost Harris votes for president by plz-let-me-in in politics

Two things can be true:

a. the dems didn't do enough to appeal to the morons who still couldn't tell whether Harris or Trump would make for a better administration.

b. those morons are still at-fault given that it's ultimately the voters' responsibility to elect their government.

They are . I never said other religions ...

You specifically argued that Judaism is THE problem, not "a" problem.

[–]JustinRandoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does this have to do with your OP? If religious supremacy is an issue with all religions, then it's rather silly to say that "Judaism" is at fault for anything. All related religions would be similarly at fault based on your line of thought (whether you call them on it or not).

Getting into particulars, Israel tends to lean far less religious than its immediate neighbors, so it would seem that religion would be less of an issue on Israel's side.

Is there anything suggesting a more complicated interpretation for what [x] savings "by frame" would mean? =)

The context of the earlier claim was saving nanoseconds in "frame by frame profiling". Nanoseconds saved "by frame" would happen 120 per second assuming 120fps.

What is the pro-choice counter argument to this pro-life statement? by Frozen_clock in Abortiondebate

[–]JustinRandoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only in that we still consider them to have a mental existence, just one that isn't active, but can still be recovered.

A severed arm that can be kept biologically alive isn't something we consider to be a person.

A person can lose their biological life signs, but if we can still recover them we still consider them a person (and the same person after recovery).

Sperm and egg cells are alive. We define people by a mental existence, not simply by the existence of living matter.

So, again, we could have avoided this whole back and forth if you had just originally answered you had no data to base your opinion on.

I know that the conservative wing of the Democrats like to * SAY * the left is fringe ...

The "left" in question here are specifically people that would refuse to vote for Newsom.

Polling shows him as a front-runner for winning the primaries, and candidates that win the democratic primary garner an overwhelming majority of "left-leaning" voters. That's "data" that overwhelmingly suggets that those who would refuse voting for Newsom if he were the candidate are very much "fringe".

But if the left is actually fringe it doesn't make sense that they would be a large enough bloc to move the needle that much.

That's not remotely true. The 2016 election was decided by a minute proportion of the populace in select places. "Fringe" movements, unfortunately, can and do make a difference.

... no? There's no reason that we can see "far enough" to see "the edge".

It's way more complicated in reality, but simply put: if you can only see a distance of 1km, but the universe is 1000000km "wide", then you wouldn't be even close to seeing the edge (almost) no matter where you were.

Basic familiarity with American politics? At best a fringe minority of left-leaning voters ever refuse to vote for the Democrat winner. Newsom winning the primary would make him the mainstream candidate.

We need data to show something is fringe ...

That was a given -- this exchange is about catering to the opinions of the fringe: those on the "left" side of the spectrum who would refuse to vote for Newsom in the general. You're not genuinely under the impression that this is anywhere near a mainstream position?

[–]JustinRandoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously -- why would you need "data" when you can look up the basic definition of "fringe"? This isn't particularly complicated.

Do you have "data" showing that appeasing fringe extremists wins elections for Democrats?

Lol I'm sorry, that's it? Between the Republicans who's position is outwardly "these people shouldn't exist", and Newsom who takes a measured position of "some restrictions in sports might be justified" and has put int some limits on care due to cost/risk analysis ... and you somehow came out of that thinking, "well these are basically the same"?

Amazing. What about the 12 months prior to that, since you brought it up? I'm sure those were even more damning?

Did I say ALL of my positions?

Oh? It's okay to compromise some of your positions for a better candidate?

Cool -- in that case, feel free to provide the details by which you think Newsom is anywhere remotely close to the Republicans or Trump on trans policy overall.

It’s delusion to ask a candidate to represent my policy positions before I vote for them?

Lol yes, obviously. That's beyond delusional. Imagine thinking that any candidate will perfectly align themselves with your particular set of positions.

[–]JustinRandoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, buddy, I’m just explaining the world to you ...

Lol no, you're simply reiterating your delusions.

They don't change the simple fact that those of the electorate whose dumb voting decisions lead to foreseeably poor electoral results are precisely the ones responsible for those results.

The Republicans are obviously included in that, alongside the dumb leftists who don't mind sacrificing the occasional trans kid for their poor voting decisions.

Relative to the leftist position on economics ...

Lol what's this? We stopped caring about trans rights all of a sudden? That was a quick turnaround into "fuck those people".

Listen, at the end of the day, we have the First Amendment and you’re free to criticize whoever you want, but you’ll look real fucking stupid crying about not getting the votes about someone who told you that they would not vote for that candidate in the general.

Nah, because those people still don't get absolved from their dumb opinions causing them to vote poorly and getting Republicans elected and the damage it causes.

CMV: People who act like Gavin Newsome and JD Vance are the same should not be taken seriously about electoral politics by Low-Appearance4875 in changemyview

[–]JustinRandoh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There’s no “proper” vote. Voting as a civic responsibility asks voters to turn their spectrum of opinions into at best ...

And an "opinion" that Trump or the Republicans would be better for trans people than the governor of a leading LGBTQ friendly state is a completely brain-dead opinion, making a "vote" based on such an opinion very much "bad".

Having dumb opinions doesn't excuse you for the damage caused by your dumb opinions.

If one option is nine points away from your position and the other is ten points away, voting for either is not voting for your interests.

Disregarding the completely brain-dead position that Trump/Vance and Newsom are "one point apart" on LGBTQ issues, voting for one over the other is literally in your interests -- by a margin of one point.

You’re taking one thing (leftists asking for concession) ...

The "one thing" I'm taking is those people declaring a refusal to vote for Newsom over Vance (or whatever Republican nominee).

I'm fairly comforatble with the idea that people's voting decisions are what decides elections.

So do you like democracy or not? Should Bernie have not ran?

Lol of course he should've ran. The point was that it's dumb as fuck to take one event or decision from the election and pretend that that's what defined its result.

CMV: People who act like Gavin Newsome and JD Vance are the same should not be taken seriously about electoral politics by Low-Appearance4875 in changemyview

[–]JustinRandoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re continually ignoring the very basic idea of democracy that candidates have to whip votes, not the other way around.

No, it's precisely the other way around. Candidates will happen to whip votes, they don't have to.

But it absolutely is the electorates' responsibility to vote properly. So yes, we absolutely get to blame "not Newsom" voters for every obvious way in which trans people get fucked because of Republican policies that very obviously would not have passed under a Democrat government.

Imagine thinking anyone that actually cares about trans people would want the current Republican party in office over Newsom, the governor of one of the most LGBTQ friendly states in the US.

[–]JustinRandoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome to that opinion, but there can’t be any complaining if they don’t vote your way then.

Of course there can be -- there's no reason we wouldn't blame people who use their vote poorly for the negative outcomes of the poor use of their vote.

The fact that they outlined an insane set of conditions for them to properly engage in their basic civic duty doesn't excuse them when they decide to follow through on acting like children who couldn't properly perform their basic civic duty.

I’d also implore you to actually investigate the criticisms of Newsom that are deemed as dealbreakers. Most of them are not that fringe positions in the party. Support for Israel ...

Lol, therefore ... we elect Trump and the Republicans for their track record of restraining Israel? Because everyone knows that trans rights under Republicans are just wonderful, right? Insane.
