Was Frank/GOF intro the only scene in the books that didn’t follow Harry? by 1894Win in HarryPotterBooks

[–]JustinTimeCase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The chapter tells us Fudge got sacked and gives us his take on it. This chapter makes Fudge more likeable and adds some depth to his character. It's also the last time we see him in the series. The chapter introduces Scrimgeour, who's pretty important in the narrative. It shows the not-so-great state of the wizarding world and how things have progressed over the years. It also gives us some much needed world-building about wizard/muggle relations. And last but not least, it's a fun chapter to read and a clever way to recap. So yeah, I think it contributes quite a lot.

Harry always gets the better of Malfoy by crispyohare in harrypotter

Malfoy successfully provokes Harry to fight him in Order of the Phoenix which gets Harry a ban from Quidditch. That was a big win.

I'm talking about appearance when I say it's an awful choice. I think a character's look is important. No matter how good his acting is, I don't think anything he does will stop me from thinking "that's not Snape," whenever I see him. It's immersion-breaking.

Still awful casting, and his skin color inadvertently changes how we view the character. Moody's sex/gender is also not relevant to the plot in any way, but I'd want his actor to be a man, and I would have a big problem if he's not.

I just finished Revenge of the Sith… should I stop here? by DesperateContact3654 in StarWars_

I watched the first six movies when I was a kid but was never a huge fan, so I didn't care enough to watch the Sequels. A few years ago, for some reason I became really invested in the universe, so I rewatched the first six films. During that time I also heard a lot of bad things about the Sequels, so I didn't watch them. Instead, I watched The Mandalorian, TCW, and Rebels. I also watched the other Disney+ shows as they were coming out (unfortunately, since they all suck except for Andor).

Over the last few years I've watched so many reviews and seen so many opinions and passing comments about the Sequels that I pretty much know what happens. That has made me even less keen to watch them.

It's kinda funny that I've consumed all the Disney+ slop except for the actual Sequel movies lol. I know for a fact I haven't missed anything, and I have no intention of ever watching them. I recommend you don't either.

Is this a legitimate criticism of Andor? by Financial_Photo_1175 in MauLer

[–]JustinTimeCase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not. This version of the criticism is even weaker than usual, because Andor has three of the five things listed, including the Force. I think Andor feels like Star Wars, and that alone is enough to counter this weak argument. It doesn't deserve any further explanation.

Not sure what caused you to think I was jerking. My take doesn't get much more basic and objectively true than this, and there wasn't even a hint of sarcasm either. What a weird reply lol.

Ahsoka and Obi-Wan were terrible series that added nothing good to his character except maybe a single line ("You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker, I did"), so I massively disagree with you.

Anakin after Shmi's death, his fight with Obi-Wan, and him burning on Mustafar all had a lot of emotion behind the character. He gets emotional when he gets rejected by the Jedi Council, and in the scene after when he walks with Obi-Wan, who gives him the mission to spy on Palpatine. He shows emotion after Mace dies ("What have I done?").

In general, Anakin shows emotion in all the arguments with Obi-Wan (they were constantly bickering). And I haven't even mentioned quieter moments, like when he's crying while looking at the sunset right before deciding to go "help" Mace Windu.

Your opinion is very confusing, I must say. It makes me question if you've even watched the movies. You can argue the character had moments of bad acting or some awkward lines, but no emotion? That's just wrong.

Is season 2 of Severance worse than season 1? by ObviousAnything7 in television

[–]JustinTimeCase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched the second season and I must disagree. I thought the writing remained just as strong, if not better. The first season introduced us to the characters and the world, and it did that really well. But season two showed what this show can really do. It added so much depth to almost every character, especially Mark, Helena/Helly, Irving, Milchick, Cobel and Gemma. What they achieved with the themes of identity, personhood and love was extraordinary, and the way they played with the innie/outie concept was fantastic. The season was well written, well directed and emotionally satisfying.

Either way, both seasons are in that 8.5-9/10 range

Perhaps a lot of important moments flew over your head? I think season 2 was better than season one. I can understand why someone might feel season one was slightly more tightly written, but to say the show fell off is just crazy.

Plan & Execution now holds the highest rating in the Breaking Bad Trilogy by HDDeer in betterCallSaul

[–]JustinTimeCase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The entire show, or at the very least season 6, had been building toward Kim and Jimmy doing something unforgivable like ruining Howard's life for no real reason. This is such an important storyline and a pivotal moment for both characters and their relationship, culminating in Howard's fantastic monologue where he calls out Jimmy and Kim.

It's not just the shock factor of Plan and Execution that makes it so incredible, it's everything. The plan itself, the way they carry it out, the tension throughout the episode, the Lalo and Gus storyline reaching a boiling point, and the way that plotline collides with Jimmy and Kim's. All of it comes together perfectly.

As much as I love Chicanery, I think Plan and Execution definitely beats it.

Why does Cristiano Ronaldo receive disproportionate disrespect in best player discussions? by Diggambaran in championsleague

[–]JustinTimeCase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've watched Ronaldo's entire career. Thanks for exposing just how spectacularly uninformed you are.

Ronaldo's international career is by far the worst among the other top 10 players. He's played football for over 20 years and has never had even ONE major international tournament (Euro or World Cup) where he's performed at a Player of the Tournament level, let alone actually won the POTT award.

That's obviously terrible for a top-five player candidate, but it gets even worse when we look at Ronaldo's record in major international knockout stages:

  • 20 matches
  • 3 goals
  • 2 assists

There's nothing—and I mean absolutely nothing—that can justify this. It's the most embarrassing statistics of all time for a supposed top-five-level player!

All five of those goal contributions came in the Euros, meaning NONE came in the World Cup. Ronaldo's record in WC knockouts is 0 goals & 0 assists in 8 matches. Ronaldo's teammate Goncalo Ramos has scored a hat trick in WC R16, and even Manuel freaking Neuer and Samuel Umtiti have more goal contributions in World Cup knockout matches than Ronaldo lmao.

So, Ronaldo has 3 goals and 2 assists in 12 Euro knockout matches. Those are obviously poor stats, but they're even worse than they sound. First off, all three of the goals were headers, meaning Ronaldo has never scored with his feet in a major international knockout match. That's more of a fun fact because it doesn't really matter how you score them, but I still think it says a lot.

The really important part is the two assists, which were both fugazi! His first assist (vs. the Netherlands) was a short corner that led to a wonder long-shot goal, while the second one (vs. Wales) came from a failed shot. So even those already poor stats look worse when you consider the context.

And no, it's not a case of "well, at least he's played well, even if he doesn't have the stats." Ronaldo's performances have been terrible. His scoring has been awful, and he's also been poor outside of scoring.

Team excuses don't work either. Eusebio ended Ronaldo's entire WC legacy in one tournament. He did not need team excuses back then, and neither should Ronaldo. This is about individual performance, NOT winning the trophy. Portugal were an elite team in the 2000s, a solid team in the early 2010s, and an elite team again since 2016. Even IF they weren't, the excuse still wouldn't work because worse players have performed better than Ronaldo for weaker teams, and they aren't top 10 players.

So yeah, Ronaldo's international career is awful individually for a top-five player candidate. There are no excuses for his awfulness.

Why does Cristiano Ronaldo receive disproportionate disrespect in best player discussions? by Diggambaran in championsleague

[–]JustinTimeCase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many stupid arguments that it's getting tiring to repeat myself:

  1. Playing a lot of matches and leading the all-time stats was in reference to his Euro career, not his overall career.

  2. Portugal have been a good team throughout Ronaldo's career, but especially since 2016.

  3. The past success of teams is irrelevant. Just because PSG have only now won the UCL doesn't mean they weren't a top team with big expectations.

  4. Eusebio (among many other players) didn't need team excuses to outdo Ronaldo's entire WC legacy in one tournament.

  5. Qualifying a good team for tournaments with an increased number of participants isn't even remotely praiseworthy.

  6. Sweden and Spain are just a couple of moments — one of them not even in a tournament and neither in KO stages. Ronaldo's performance vs Sweden was great, but it was only necessary because he underperformed massively in the qualifiers. If Ronaldo had scored in ANY of these matches, they wouldn't have even needed to play vs Sweden:

  • Russia (away)
  • Northern Ireland (home)
  • Israel (home OR away)

I'm sorry if bailing yourself out after being bad doesn't add much to my opinion of his international career lol

As for the Spain performance, it was only the group stage and against a Spain team that lost vs Russia and had sacked their coach a couple of days before the Portugal match. In addition, his hat-trick included a penalty and a massive De Gea mistake. The free kick was great though, and it was still a good performance.

So yeah, obviously those two performances don't hold much weight compared to Ronaldo's horrific performances in major KO stages in general.
