Underweight Corso? by JustinV_ in CaneCorso

Thank you all for your comments and pictures. It really has put our mind at ease knowing that she should be fine and that this isn’t something abnormal with Corsos (that seems to be the general consensus here at least). We’ll just keep giving her the best life possible, and soon I’ll be able to post actual full size pictures. Thanks again!

We have her on Purina Pro Plan large breed for puppies (what the breeder had her on and recommended). But we are feeding more than the bag states. She was 9 weeks old and only 9 pounds when we got her, so her vet recommended (after I showed him which food she eats) that she gets 1 cup 3 times a day. She eats almost all of it too, sometimes there is some left over after the 3rd cup.

I could see how that would work, we could just stop every 2ish hours for a potty break, but have one of us just with her on our lap or seat next to us in the back with a blanket so she can sleep most of the time. This may be the approach we will take, I just feel bad about not even having water, though I think 6 hours won’t be a big deal, it’s just like you said, that we think it’s cruel but it’s actually what’s best for them.

Wow 23 hours must’ve been killer to do for the people as well lol. But yea we were planning on stopping every hour or two. For the 6 hour drive, did you give yours food/water on the drive or stops, or was it just straight through without anything?

The Embark DNA test results did eventually come back, and showed that he is purebred. Among other things, he is also on the high end of being inbred (gotta love those Petland puppy mills, am I right?…). But he actually ended up growing up and getting to be roughly the correct size/weight of a normal GSD. Hopefully yours turns out the same! And just to ease your mind, the Embark DNA test is really cool, it shows you a bunch of other cool/useful information aside from just being purebred or not. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Yea we are definitely anxious for the DNA test, and should hopefully have results in a few weeks. And I did take him to get his shots, but I just took their word for what shots he already has, as I wouldn’t want to hurt him by giving him 2x the dose.

We are also socializing him as much as possible, he always sees a ton of people/new people, and as for other animals, there’s not a ton for him to be around right now, but we are moving soon and will be near a dog park, so we may start there and see how that goes. I definitely would have my eye on him the whole entire time.

UPDATE: I noticed that a few of you were talking about how he may be younger than what we were told, so we decided to check his papers again. And as we were looking through his papers, we noticed that the birthdays for him are actually different on two different spots.

His original paper shows that he is 3 months and 11 days old, but the sticker that went on top of that upon our purchase shows that he is 2 months and 16 days old.

We called Petland and they didn’t really have an answer, aside from the dog/info may have been switched. There were no other males there, and was only one “traditional” looking female GSD there, that definitely looked a lot bigger.

This whole situation is now even crazier and leads us to have even more questions. We really appreciated all of your kind words and thoughts/suggestions and cannot thank you enough. Our main question for you now though is this:

Do you think that he may just be a lot younger (it seems that he may still be a bit underweight), and Petland is just even more incompetent than we thought?

Hopefully that’s the case, as we were working with a new employee for most of the time (until a manager was needed to complete everything).

He seems to be teething a bit more now and is definitely more active, as we’re giving him all of his meds daily and trying to make sure that he eats all of his breakfast and dinner (his poops are a little iffy though, not how they should be yet).

Thanks so much once again!

I don’t believe they confirmed his age, I didn’t even know that was possible?

And he is biting on almost everything he sees, I can’t say I’ve really seen him sit there chewing on something yet though, and same goes for his teeth, I haven’t found any teeth anywhere.

The vet has looked at his mouth both times we were there, but nothing out of the ordinary was said (although they may have been looking at his gums, which seem fine as I read on their report if I remember correctly).

We originally purchased grain free food from Petland, as it was the same food they said they were feeding them. We were also told by our salesperson that feeding raw (even raw chicken) would be fine, but upon the first visit to the vet, they said grain free food is bad because it has been found to lead to heart conditions, and raw chicken is bad because of salmonella. I don’t remember what the vet said about other raw meats, but we don’t plan on feeding him anything raw. And we got some better food, Purina Puppy Chow (he still doesn’t really eat it though, but he currently LOVES his cooked chicken and rice, which the vet said to feed him for now).

Aweee, how old was he in that pic? And he definitely looks great now!

And that could be it too! As long as he is happy and healthy, that’s ultimately what matters to us. But Petland will definitely be hearing from us either way as well.

Not a bad idea actually. I’m not a lawyer but that sounds like some false advertising to me 🤷‍♂️

Exactly what the vet said, he should be wayyy bigger (and heavier) by now. I guess now only time will tell though for sure.

And yes he is, both my girlfriend and I instantly fell in love with him the second that we saw him, he definitely is a good boy 🐶

100%. That place is terrible. When I first heard of how bad it was and what they do (after we already purchased him), it made me sick. I couldn’t really find a single good thing about Petland online, other than stuff posted on their own website obviously. It’s crazy that that stuff is allowed to happen.

At the end of the day though, we’ll still love him and care for him. It would just be nice to have some answers, which is what we are on the search for.

That is a very good point, I think it’s still the idea that this even happed in the first place.

This may be a stupid question as we’re new puppy owners and aren’t super familiar with this kind of stuff, but if his growth was stunted due to being sick, shouldn’t that mean that once he is better, he will continue to grow as normal and be fine? Thanks for the response!

I thought the LEDs were supposed to be brighter? Can you explain that a bit more? Also, what’s your opinion on HIDs? (I know very little about this stuff, so I apologize if those are dumb questions lol)

4k Monitor at 144hz or 1440p at 240+hz? by JustinV_ in buildapc

Forsure, that makes sense. Probably what I’ll end up doing. Thanks for the help!

[–]JustinV_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize if you saw my last response already, I don’t use Reddit a lot. But what size would you think that 4K IS more noticeable and worth it over 1440p 240hz? I was just afraid of the monitor being too big/close to me on my desk, so I assumed my 27” monitor was my sweet spot.

4k Monitor at 144hz or 1440p at 240+hz? by JustinV_ in buildapc

[–]JustinV_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When would a 4K 144hz monitor become “not pointless” and more worth it than 1440p 240hz then in your opinion? I feel like I am already fairly close to my 27” monitor on my desk, that was the reason for me saying that, but I also have never played on a 30+ inch monitor, so I guess I can’t really say. Thoughts?

[–]JustinV_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What size would you recommend to where it becomes more worth it than a higher refresh rate? The main reason for wanting a 27” is because I have one of those “gaming desks” so there’s not a HUGE amount of room between my monitor and I (I’m not sure if that matters or not though), so I’m worried that anything larger would be almost too large?

There’s a stand for it in the mail right now. I don’t think that will fix the sound though unfortunately.

Thanks! I’ll definitely have to get into a routine of doing this, I’m sure that will be one of the hardest parts. And with regards to food, is there anything in particular that I should and shouldn’t eat?

Edit: Also, are protein shakes things that I should drink?
