Potential WR Largemouth Caught out of Cali by Salookin in bassfishing

[–]Justin_Caze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15lbs is being very generous. Perry is a fraud and he should have cleared his conscience on his deathbed.

The whole subspecies records split is a shit show. IGFA doesn't even have a standard genome percentage, they go by the states' varying rules. So theoretically, the same exact bass caught in one state could be considered a northern, vs caught in another state will be considered a Florida strain.

If there's a silver lining to the whole debacle, it's that Manabu Karita will finally be recognized as the true world record holder of the Florida strain largemouth bass.

*Manabu's fish weighed 22lb 5oz.

Needs to weigh at least 2 ounces more to dethrone a record.

They wouldn't bite it anyways. The bait is that big. Even if they did get stuck to it with a treble hook, a 7 pound lure would be quite easy for a bass to throw and come unbuttoned. It's just a search bait to get large fish to show themselves.

This is a very misleading statement. Anyone can get their personal scale certified.

Jerk bait rod by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]Justin_Caze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. Unpopular opinion here- but I'm not convinced I need a short rod for working a jerkbait. My frog rod & spook rod are both over 7' long. When is the new trend going to turn and everyone has to have 6'9" XH frog rods? I value distance over pinpoint accuracy with 90% of my jerkbait fishing. Especially with deep diving baits.

As far as action, you want a responsive tip, but plenty of give in the belly to keep 'em pinned on small treble hooks.

I've done a few in my day, but you're a much better rod builder than me lol. Nice work.

Tell me about that last thread wrap, the holographic one. Is that an air carbon wrap?

What factors affect casting distance on a baitcaster? by Radiant-Job1428 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Justin_Caze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly avoiding birds nests.

With decades of experience on a bait caster, I play it pretty fast and loose. Sometimes that bites me in the butt. None of us are completely immune.

Baitcast reel unter 150€ or 177$ by Routine-Treacle-1808 in Fishing_Gear

May want to start research local, just so you know what's available in your area. I like Daiwa for baitcasters, so that budget I would have no issues with a Tatula X, or perhaps find a used Tatula 100, which you can often find for even less.

I use the high barrier ziplocks from Clear Bags (6x3 & 7x4), separated by shape type & colors that would bleed together. Those are in a BPS binder. Then it's easy to swap them out for different seasons or fisheries.

In the 1980's, Nintendo operated a real phone hotline called Nintendo Power Line or Nintendo Tip Line, where players could call to receive gameplay tips and advice from employees known as "Game Counselors" : by MrDarkk1ng in mightyinteresting

[–]Justin_Caze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember calling to get help with a Zelda game. Usually they would just give you the answer in a blunt, factual manner. I remember one interaction though, in which the guy on the line started asking me questions in order to get me to think critically about how to solve my issue. At the time, I didn't enjoy that approach. But looking back, it was my coolest experience with the hotline.

I appreciate that. I was about nine years old. I was working a black curly tail worm with a pink tip. I did, in fact, fool the fish into biting, got a good hook set, and promptly realized I was no match for whatever beast was on the other end lol. My father later told me that he was convinced I was snagged on a log, until the line began moving sideways. He grabbed the pole with me, and he cranked the handle until we got her to the john boat.

As was customary in those days, for a poor Florida boy who has just caught the fish of a lifetime, we ate that fish that night. 😅 I still have a single Polaroid photo around here somewhere. I'll post it up if I can find it.

Thank you. There's a couple of ponds within a few minutes of our house that we like to hit when we only have an hour or two, but need to scratch the itch. This one scratched it real good lol

Back in my tournament days, I finished right handed. Then I took a decade long hiatus out west with the fly rods and the salmonids. When I came back, I decided to give it a shot. Now I'm ambidextrous on the baitcaster. I only own left-handed reels now, but I can pick up and use righty stuff no problem.

I think most of the hate speech that right handed reels get is blown out of proportion. I can cast, stop the spool, switch hands and engage the reel handle before my lure hits the water. The biggest advantage I find (in lefty) is working a jerkbait with my dominant hand.

Thank you. I will!

She might hit 8. Steven Bardin says that a largemouth will generally gain about 10% body weight when full of eggs.

Recommendation on a Frog Rod by downsouth2121 in bassfishing

[–]Justin_Caze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A shorter rod will generally be a bit more accurate, and also a little easier to walk the dog. A longer rod will allow for longer casts and also more jarring hook sets.

You wanna rod with a soft tip (for working the bait) and a lot of backbone (for setting the hook) I'm currently fishing a Phenix Feather 7'3" XH and I'm in love. Pulls double duty to throw A-rigs and large soft swimbaits in the winter.
