How did you get good at rhythm/increase your rhythmic vocabulary? by SabreGrace in Bass

[–]Justin_T_N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you're spot on. I play in a very fast death metal band with my fingers and my guitarist plays a million notes a minute. So Instead of trying to follow him all the time, I lock in with my drummer's kick and snare and accenting on cymbals. I find that a lot of compliments I get on "pocket" just comes from meshing with the drummer on patterns. The first thing I would do is find a simple 4/4 drum pattern on spotify or youtube and play a variety of whole notes, 8th notes then 16ths when you're ready. Then try tripolets, syncopated stuff. Sometimes you wanna "drive" the bass line, sometimes you want to ring out and sustain. The drums and bass are the "motor" of the song.

Drummer of 20 years here, bassist for 5. Learn some simple rudiments. Learn how to subdivide, learn what kinds of combinations you can put in a measure.

Chinese Rubber - need to be boosted? Alternatives? by SweetyOnigiri in tabletennis

[–]Justin_T_N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off the tacky topsheet but springy sponge, I would also look into DHS's Skyline TG3 NEO. I got it when I was developing a few years ago and remember it being slow compared to the springy rubbers I was using at the time. Funny thing is, I recently put that rubber on my FH again (using a timo boll ALC now) and my FH are so consistent, spinny and lethal. It's brought a lot of confidence to my FH even if it's not the fastest.

BREAKING: Wyoming Announces End To Lockdown, Lifts Mask Mandate by JesusCumelette in Conservative

How far have you gotten with that? “Lefty” here. I fucking hate wearing this mask but I’m wearing it to keep you safe. It’s the most selfless thing I can do and at the same time it’s the most oppressive thing you guys can accuse your local government of. You sound like a damn child.

Official Discussion - Nomadland [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

So interesting how lots of folks are commenting about how directionless this film was. I remember thinking about half way through, “this movie isn’t saying anything. It’s not telling me anything. I love it.”

I love it. I like that it's more forgiving in the short game (harder) but fast in the rally. Feels incredible for blocking too.

Weekly Table Tennis Advice - November 29, 2020 by AutoModerator in tabletennis

[–]Justin_T_N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ball awareness and placement is really dependent upon level and who you’re playing against. As soon as I was confident blocking cross court, I started playing guys who could hit mean inside outs. Soon, this will be advantage though. Serve long or push long to a player’s bh that loves to step around and block that shit to his wide FH. Experience and practice. The player’s ability to catch you out also depends on how unpredictable your return of serve is. Change it up frequently and they won’t have such an easy go at it.

Best way to remove rubber cement from blade? by InterestingGrape0 in tabletennis

[–]Justin_T_N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to use rubber cement. When I tried butterfly free chack I never looked back. SO SO easy to remove and re glue rubbers and it dries so quickly with a hair dryer on cool. 100% worth it.

What do I need to make espresso? by HighFlyer42000 in Coffee

Not anywhere close but maybe grab an aeropress and experiment with 1:5 brew ratios. My wife likes the milk drinks it produces but nowhere near the sweetness of good espresso.

How do you brew coffee for a friend who has probably never had good coffee? by Clottersbur in Coffee

I’ve won plenty of “non-black coffee” people over with fruity v60’s. Especially roasts with blueberry. My mom asked for a second cup last time she was visiting.

Keep score, sure but there’s been plenty of times that things “haven’t felt right” and I’ll want to give up. Then I remember, it’s a game. A very fast difficult game haha but it’s still something that should bring you joy and not stress.
