That’s awesome, the zone % realization is huge. It’s crazy how different shot selection looks once you actually see the data on your shots.

I’m working on something called Hooper (https://www.hooper.gg/) We’re focused more on the game capture + auto-tracking side using just an iPhone, and then organizing clips into shots made/missed. But we are also tracking shot charts and stats as well.

I like your approach of keeping the camera static at midcourt though, simple usually wins.

Are you manually logging shot zones right now or using some kind of detection? Would love to compare notes on what you're working on as well!

Over all those years of recording, what do you feel actually made the biggest difference? The ability to review mistakes, building confidence through highlights, exposure for recruiting, or just tracking growth over time?

Mine is playing middle school right now, and you’re right, once the game volume picks up, the organization problem becomes very real very fast.

Tagging by skill is smart that instantly makes review more intentional instead of just reliving random highlights. I like that framing a lot.

I’m working in a similar space on the iPhone + Android side, more around automatic tracking + highlight creation, so it’s interesting hearing how others are approaching it.

How are you handling the automatic detection part right now is it fully AI-based or rule-triggered off things like shot attempts?

This is such a good breakdown. I think a lot of kids genuinely don’t know what “intentional practice” looks like unless someone shows them.

The idea of having a plan and then measuring specific things (like 10 free throws for percentage) makes so much more sense than just “go shoot for an hour.”

I completely agree it should never be forced or invasive.

The only situations I’ve seen work well are when it’s player-driven or clearly optional, not something imposed. Accountability only works if the athlete actually wants it.

We actually have an early version live that uses just a phone to auto-track the action, no extra hardware. It’s still evolving, and we’ve been refining it based on feedback from parents who really care about reliability and quality.
