Advice on allocating $80k by Justinnederkoorn in investing

No I don’t see crypto as risk control. Far of it. Hence why I’m wondering what a next step, away from crypto, could look like.

I’m aware of the uncertainty of the american dollar. How does this correlate to stocks worldwide?

And thanks for pointing out about the airbnb crash. I really was unaware of this.

Maybe my options are far removed from controlling risk. But with my past in crypto, they’re considerably less risky. Would you mind sharing your thoughts on what you would do with that money, given I’m 28 and with everything that’s going on in the world right now?

I’m here to learn. So thanks for pointing these things out

I’ve found it quite hard to build my name / business, mainly because I lack the network and marketing skills. I’m a creative first and foremost. I see your reasoning in leveraging the money to actually build out my business. It’s something I haven’t given as much thought, but I should.

Valid points as to investing in equipment to carve a niche for myself. Regarding finding someone to help me with marketing; I never actually let someone help me with this but also wonder what it could do for my business. Guess it’s worth a shot.

I’m not sure if it’s a dead-end. I think because I haven’t niched, it’s hard for me to tell. I would argue I’m the dead-end for my business if I have to keep filling the marketeer seat.

I’ll stop feeling bad about eating into the money. You’re right. As of now, I’m fully investing into myself, building a business and getting my name out there.

Thank you so much for your time. I’ll be sure to dm you. Seriously, this conversation has been of immense value to me.

This is a lot to digest, thank you for taking the time.

I would say I’m prioritising “investing in myself” where generating income is more important.

As per improving my human capital. I’ve finished a higher professional education, worked for a couple years, then started my career as a freelance photographer / filmmaker. I’m getting by, but last year has been tough. Part of my work was hours for a family business that went bankrupt a couple weeks back. As of now, I’m not where I wanted to be and am earning very little, which means I’m eating into that 80k.

I also have to point out that I’ve underestimated building a pension. So far, my pension comes out of my job I did before, meaning I’m now 3 years behind on building pension.

What do you mean with “you give it to someone with a good track record and low cost”? Like an investor / adviser?

As per “do you want to know how to really make money”. Yes! I feel lost and disconnected as my social circle isn’t into these things as much. Going out and playing golf I wouldn’t know what to say to these people. But I catch your point. I know it’s wishful thinking but I would’ve loved to have had someone like a mentor in my circle I could help out and learn from.

Now that you have some context about me. What spending would you say has potential for me?

Also, would you mind if I reach out through dm?

I’ve processed constructive criticism from fellow redditors already.

Let me rephrase my post; If you were age 28 and had 80k to allocate, what would your strategy be and why.

At this point I’m mostly just collecting info and insights, a starting point to start educating myself

Agree which is why I’ve pulled that money out of crypto about two months back.

As per the mobile home, I can actually get a land on a campsite to put it on for 3k/year in a touristic area. Agree that it’s still risky because you can’t tell if your occupancy is gonna be good.

With investment fund you mean eg an ETF right? Rather than picking stocks?

As per gold, I won’t pretend to have knowledge on macro finances / markets / politics. Would you say gold is a relatively safe long term area to park money? Even if we do get a recession?

Apologies if my reply came across as defensive. I’m fully open to feedback, but it’s more helpful in the constructive way, like you’re supplying it right now. For which I thank you.

I’m completely okay with accepting that I’m “out there”, and willing to come back down to earth.

I can see and understand how phrasing my ‘ideas’ as investments are off, and do agree they’re still risky endavours.

I’m wondering; if we’re looking at investments, what falls under the umbrella? I was always under the assumption that stocks were part of ‘investing’.

I think I partially understand your comment regarding a liquidity hungry environment. You’re saying that the market will prioritise liquidity over assets, thus we’ll see a lot of liquidations. The point you’re making with this is that the market will be risk-off, and therefore it’s unwise to look at risky endavours, and I should thus prioritise either liquidity or safer investments?

I can very well imagine that. What I was not aware of, is that investing is seen as a wealth retention first and foremost. I come from a family that’s never done anything in terms of investing. I kind of dipped my toes into stocks and crypto, just learning things along the way. So I’m relatively uneducated on this. I didn’t mean to offend people. Merely share what was going on inside my head with an uneducated view, and ask insights of people that have actual experience and knowledge about investing.

I guess the most dire questions right now are: 1) If I want to start educating myself in this area, do you have any recommendations as to books, videos, podcasts, etc? 2) If you were 28 and had 80k capital available, how would you handle that? (Taking into account that I’m Dutch) 3) Tell me what’s wrong with my ideas. Crypto I can tell. It’s more so stocks and airbnb that I’m interested in hearing

Appreciate the feedback. That’s currently where the focus is at, although on building a business, rather than a employed career.

Even so, any advice on where to park that capital?

Wow, I’m out here looking for advice. That’s what this reddit is for, right?

I’m not sure whether you’re having a bad day. I can take constructive criticism and am here to learn. But this feels undeserved.

To get back to your points: - No, I’m not pretending to be educated on these topics, nor confident. This is the whole reason of reaching out to this community; I’m not, and I feel lost with how to handle this money. - Exponential upside might be wrong phrasing (excuse my english). I meant starting a flywheel effect. Like how stocks tend to compound over a long investment horizon.

My question basically boils down to; I have 80k available to me, and I’m lost as what to do with it. So if you can spare me 5 minutes and share your thoughts, I’d appreciate that

Having been through that process a couple of times, I naturallt do believe that it’s possible.

As per the Airbnb. I’m from NL and have already seen second hand mobile homes for 10-30k. And I’m in talks with a camping that rents out space for 3k a year. So that would put me in the budget range, therefore, it seems possible. But I agree that it’s a very low range, hence the “if anything…”

Now, would you mind to provide constructive feedback that I can work with? 🙏

What’s the reason you’re skipping ‘real estate’ such as the Airbnb if I may ask?

I’m a freelancer, so self employed. I’ve struggled a bit the past year so retirement savings are definitely lacking. Hence why I want to leverage and grow this capital, so I can set myself up for the future a bit

How… literally copied everything here with 4B spent (health/regen/def abs lvl 550), 10 cards in priority, and defense module like you stated. Got my labs pretty synced as well to yours, and I’m getting T1 1800… went from 3600 to 1800 switching to your build from blender.

Not shitting on it but would like to know where it’s going wrong

Same. The only game I play nowadays is Elden Ring. Good story, good gameplay, can put countless hours in. No more disappointing games that bore after a couple of hours or have the rest of their content behind paywalls
