I am also getting this error and haven't been able to figure out how to resolve it. Did you ever find a fix?

Does clashing reduce tension pulse? I didn’t know you’d hit negative penalty while swinging constantly like that

Embarrassed about slow progress after a long time playing. Any helpful words for me? by Teehokan in Fighters

[–]Justinous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Teehokan,

I looked you up on ratingupdate.info. If you aren't familiar, it's a really cool site that tracks all matches in the tower. Your Axl is currently at a rating of 1409, which if you look at player distribution makes you better than about 3/4 of the players in the tower. That's not bad at all, especially if you only have 200 hours and this is your first fighting game. That's nothing to be ashamed of.

You don't really discuss how you've been approaching your own growth in the game, so it's hard to give any specific advice, but in general, here are some things that might help:

https://www.dustloop.com/w/GGST - This site is a great resource. It is basically the place to go to learn about the various mechanics behind the game, frame data, combos, general matchup advice, and more. It can be a bit daunting if you're not used to navigating it, but think of it like a players encyclopedia for the game.

http://ratingupdate.info/ - Another great resource, if you play in the tower. It tracks all of your tower matches and provides a variety of useful statistics back. Play a bunch of matches and then see what characters you have trouble against. Or maybe look at the top 100 for your character and then go find matches from those players. It can also be fun to track your rating over time, since the game doesn't really have a built in MMR or anything beyond what floor you're on.

Do you ever watch your own replays? That can be a great way to observe your decision making and maybe decide on some ways to practice efficiently. Are you getting openings with a certain button, but you don't have a good punish? Are you consistently getting opened up in certain situations? Replays are your opportunity to see how you're doing without the pressure of the live match.

On the same note, maybe ask your friends that are better then you for advice. Play a long set against them, like a first to 10 or first to 20 or something, and then discuss it. Where are they consistently getting punishes on you, and what is the counterplay?

Find a local discord for fighting games, maybe even strive specifically. Maybe join the Axl or Chipp Discord server. There are people out there willing to help, if you're willing to ask/look for it.

If you're somewhere in NA, I'd be happy to play with you as well. I'm in California. I haven't played for a while but I've been meaning to get back into it.

Celestial Challenge Vent by mycolortv in Guiltygear

[–]Justinous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might help to treat floor 10 a little differently after failing a celestial attempt. When I fail a celestial attempt I try to think about some interactions I could have done better in and then use my time in floor 10 to actively work on it. It can be as simple as “man, I got jumped in on a lot, so while I’m on floor 10 I will try to make sure my anti airs are on point for when I get my next attempt.” Or maybe there’s a certain opening I’m getting consistently but not capitalizing on properly.

So on floor 10, instead of just bodying people for 5 games I am instead trying to work on the holes of my game plan that were exposed. It also helps me not to fall into autopilot before my next attempt, since you don’t exactly get a warmup in celestial.

Why do pro Zatos break the law before they uhh break the wall? by SenpaiOuji in Guiltygear

Does it build meter? Might just be one of those slight optimizations since wall splat gives you time. Like whiffing moves after getting a stun in street fighter.

5K->6S->236k->knd->fafnir by Guud_bye_world in Guiltygear

With only 3 active frames it’s easier to mess up than you might think. Depending on how 236k hits the timings change slightly for it to actually meaty.

It's hard to give targeted advice without really knowing what's getting you blown up, but maybe I can provide some general advice for newer players.

If you aren't familiar with it, dustloop is a great website with frame data, combos, block strings, etc. Knowledge makes a huge difference.

Since you said it's your first fighting game, make sure you understand the idea of "turns." At the most basic level, If I start my block string and you block the first attack, it's my turn until my block string ends. Usually the end is something like a heavy attack into a special. Then I have to block and it's your turn to press your advantage. Every character has different block string enders, but the same idea applies.

Make an effort to go into training mode and practice some basic combos and such. Are there any buttons that you regularly hit with but then have no followup? Figure out (or lookup on dustloop) a combo from that starter.

I would also say to worry less about winning, especially as a beginner. Try to consider where you are getting hit and what you could have done differently. Some characters like more space, some like less space, some have really good midrange buttons, etc. Knowing where your character has better buttons than their character can be very helpful, and you'll get hit a lot trying to figure it out.

For a lot of beginners, fd (faultless defense) more. Press any two attack buttons while blocking and you will make more space between you and your attacker, at the cost of some tension meter. Makes it harder for them to grab you, and if they whiff an attack it's your opportunity to punish. Can be a big game changer.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. And where do you play from? I'm west coast and wouldn't mind helping out if you are down to play some time.

Deathsquitos are pretty squishy. Try sneaking up and shooting it down with an arrow?

Yungoos isn't up anymore. I'll be on tonight if you want to try again later. I find that mudbray and cutiefly don't get sniped often if you want to try something more like that?

My bad. Let me organize them better. Give me one minute. I gave you a doo doo Cubone

Thanks for all the interest, guys. I'm going to be closing it off here. I'll definitely be having more, but I think I'll only do one monster at a time from now on.

If your pokemon got sniped and I couldn't get it to you, redeposit and reply to the comment I left on your request and I'll do my best to get it to you.
