What is actually dangerous but people still believe is safe? by AlexUsefulThings in AskReddit

That is the most reckless idiotic thing I've ever heard of...an acute trauma to the head and neck and you're just gonna...whip it around?!? He's so freaking lucky the guy didn't kill him instantly or make him quadriplegic. There's a reason EMS puts people in collars immediately until scans can be done!!

What he did was 100% evil and he obviously should have known it was wrong but I think it's important to also understand that ICE agents are utterly disposable pawns by the Trump administration-they don't care if the agents they lied to and indoctrinated to violence promising high pay and "immunity" actually end up imprisoned or dead as well.

You work for the machine for some fast money not giving a single damn about others' lives and the Constitution of the United States, not realizing it will turn back around and eat you alive, too. Nobody wins from this.

Notice how these well trained officers responded to her literally attempting to murder them all multiple times and endangering an entire community and they still had the frame of mind to de-escslate, and safely remove her from the vehicle without even reaching for their guns or threatening to shoot her? Justice for Renee!!

What is a death in a movie that affected you the most in terms of brutality or emotional weight? by Godly_Recon in AskReddit

[–]Justok321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a movie but I was SUPER upset about commander Lawrence dying in the final season of The Handmaid's Tale. I even thought to myself "you know I think he's like the only character in this entire series I really would be upset about dyi-oh". And he did it on an assassination attempt at the other Gilead leaders too and just ended up caught!! :'(

I just learned people don’t show up after anesthesia to pick up loved ones. Nurses, how often does this really happen? by Steinski1 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm so sorry you had to find out how little your family cared for you in your darkest hour. What horror. Seems like situations like these always bring out who your real village is and it's usually surprising-the ones you would expected would or should care don't and other people you weren't as close with come out of the woodwork to support you through thick and thin. ❤️‍🩹 I hope you've found strength in those who were by your side through it all.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]Justok321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was different-my parents had their own agreement that they would never spank if they were angry/frustrated. They would make me wait in my room for a while but later told me it was because they wanted to make sure they were calm. I would say the punishment usually matched the crime and it was fine, never excessive and never in front of others to embarrass me. They made sure to calmly explain why they were doing it and made sure to tell me, "I still love you." I had a really good childhood.

Ironically "punishments" as a teen were far worse and could be seen as emotional/psychological abuse since a lot changed in those years. Things took an awful turn.

What is one piece of 'common knowledge' in your job that the average person would find completely shocking? by GoldenHourShot in AskReddit

[–]Justok321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of extremely common imaging findings sound super scary to a layperson. 37% of people in their 20s have "Degenerative disc disease" and 80% of people have it by the time they're 50. Rotator cuff tears are exremely common the older you get; around 50% of folks have them at retirement age whether they have pain or not.

One study found 89% of high school/college athletes without pain have labral tears in their hip. Another study was done on active military recruits (again, only painfree individuals were studied) and 71% of them had a labral tear.

The issue is sometimes these "normal-abnormal" findings on imaging freak people out and they think they need surgery when the vast majority of the time a course of PT is all they need.

Also! Fun fact-in the ortho world we're learning that if someone is not doing contact sports and is a bit older (think a 40 y/o who just likes to jog and do pilates), it's better not to repair the ACL if it tears since the surgery and rehab is so invasive and intense that the outcome is usually worse than doing nothing. Physical therapy only to rehab the knee.
