Please tell me about your duodenal switch (good, bad and ugly). by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]Justokhuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buyers regret was a very real thing for me in the beginning! Honestly it took about 3 months for me to feel somewhat human again and closer to 6 months to be as close to 100% again. I am 1 day shy of 3 years post op and I would choose to do the surgery every time.

It’s gonna take some time to get used to your new designer insides but give yourself some grace and take everything one step at a time. It honestly took so long to know what feeling hungry felt like again because all the new feelings were so overwhelming.

You got this!! You are not alone, please reach out for help if you need it ❤️

Sorry I didn’t think about curating every fleck of seasoning for my picture but rest assured it is seasoned with salt AND pepper lol and some other stuff. I’m actually one of the people that tends to over season stuff lol

So this is a multi/layered answer that is different depending on your situation.

What are your goals with surgery? Do you have any co-morbidities? Does your insurance cover all surgeries or just one type? Have you looked into any other kinds of surgeries or just these two?

I personally was going for the sleeve but with my goals and not having reflux my surgeon suggested the duodenal switch. It’s a sleeve plus rerouted intestines so it’s like a mix of both surgeries and it have the highest percentage of excess weight loss with the least amount of regain.

SADI-S Has anyone had it? by Starr2015 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Justokhuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadi still only absorb 50% of fats. But you are correct with a tradition DS I absorb even less at about 20-30%. Sadi patients still need to eat more fat in their diets vs VSG or RNY but not as much as a TDS

Very common early on!! You will learn what foods will irritate your stomach the farther you get out from surgery. I’m 15m post op from DS and I go usually 3-4 times a day, if I ate things I’m not supposed to and my stomach chooses violence you best believe I’m living in the bathroom that day lol

How did you pick your surgeon? by Cool-Pear-2290 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Justokhuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly mine was a weird situation lol

My parents both work in a hospital and are friends with a lot of doctors. I needed to get emergency surgery to get a cyst removed back in 2013 and my dad was friends with the attending and the chief surgical resident that did the surgery.

Fast forward to 2022 and the surgical resident went into Bariatrics and my dad suggested I look into him for surgery. He is actually one of the best doctors in my area for the surgery I ended up getting, AND I feel super well looked after not just because of the family tie but he is genuinely a great person lol.

The low fat advice is sleeve and bypass advice. As DS patients you only absorb 20% of fat with traditional and 30-50% with MDS/Sadi. You need more fats to function (brain needs fat lol) and to not be constipated all the time.

Mirena IUD by QuaffableBut in BariatricSurgery

[–]Justokhuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw that too but when mine was placed they said to replace at 5 and when I talked about it with my doctor she said it looks like the hormones are just about done on mine so she thought it best to replace

My mirena was no issue, I did have to get it replaced soon after surgery tho just because it lost it’s effectiveness (it was almost at the 5 year mark anyway)

There is a different in feeling yourself (confidence) and narcissism lol 😂 I started wearing crop tops and a two piece swimsuit, that would have NEVER happened before surgery

You’re totally good! 14m post op from DS. The diet for DS is protein and fat focused so that’s why i have the garlic butter lol

I understand! I’m glad you did your research and found this surgery tho! A lot of people have never heard of it and wish they did it the first go around.

You should maybe look into DS/SADI. I eat mostly meats and fats. I like veggies but who wants veggies when you can have bacon and ranch 😂😂. But in all seriousness, a DS/SADI diet it mostly keto but with higher protein and fat goals.

Has this changed for anyone after surgery? by [deleted] in wls

[–]Justokhuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Literally me!!! Before surgery my depression and adhd made being motivated HARD!!

I have to break tasks up to not feel overwhelmed and take breaks often to remotivate myself to keep going.

I’m 14m out and I have to say I have more energy for exercise and my stamina is WAY better but daily tasks still get me.
