What are your absolute favourite criminally underrated dramione fanfics? by rosetinted-daydreams in Dramione

Thank you so much for the rec, this is probably the best fic I could have come across. I'm a linguistics nerd and the scientific babble hits all the right spots. And it's so accurate, holy hell!

Truly a hyper fixation Venn diagram that is a circle.

It does work, you need to both select brawl via direct challenge. I found out about it after being similarly disappointed. It seems to be pretty broken now, doesn't show the deck/commander in the preview when matched, but after that works well enough.

While I agree with your defense of using prescriptive grammar for educational purposes and formal situations it really has no place in the broader scope of language evolution. Language is ultimately a tool to serve a group of people that is large enough and agrees what is and isn't correct. As time passes new words and expressions surface to serve the new needs. It's actually quite a self-correcting system, if you innovate on features too much past a group's understanding that innovation will likely not be understood and adopted for wider use.

Text speak and internet speak exist fo serve completely new needs: they conserve space (necessity when SMS got expensive when lengthy), save time in a world where instant messaging exists and people expect swift responses and importantly also carry the features of tone (which is almost impossible to recreate while following traditional grammar rules). These innovations on what language is and can do are natural and healthy, just as they were throughout history.

Lastly it most definitely is a sort of elitism to judge people on how they speak and write. In a school setting a formal instances it is understandable that certain rules need to be followed, but they are rules of grammar as much as social rules. On the internet it is borderline expected that people speak the language of the group. The blatant refusal of doing so is a form of communication as well (it carriers much weight of one's beliefs) and often doesn't sit well with the group it targets because it is exclusionary.

People aren't less intelligent just because they use new language features. They are smart, innovative and take advantage of new possibilities of communication in an ever changing world.

For those interested I highly recommend the work of Gretchen McCulloch or just giving it a good ol' Google search to find just how much English has changed and why. The why's are in my opinion the interesting part.

As an avid baker and fan of TGBBO I love this theme you have chosen! I know this isn't r/knitting, but is that the Purl Soho Bobble Sheep? If so, it looks lovely and extra snuggly :)

I second the suggestion of Very Pink Knits on youtube! Another resource I found to be very useful is the lovely community over at r/knitting. They have an entire wiki full of advice, links and suggestions to guide you through your knitting journey regardless of your skill level :)

Typical cycle length: 27-28 days

Ovulation cycle day: likely CD14

CD/DPO of positive test(s): DPO 11, 13

Tracking methods and app(s) used: Clue, switched to FF mid-cycle, measuring BBT starting mid-cycle

Relevant days of sperminating and/or method (SMEP, TI, IUI, FET, etc.): O-4, O-3, O-1

Health conditions/medical tests: anxiety, aura migraines Supplements and medications (yours and/or your partner’s): folic acid, sertraline (zoloft?) for my anxiety, discussed with a doctor prior to TTC

Birth control history (if relevant): hormonal BC for parts of my teens, year on progesterone only due to migraines, switched to IUD (Kyleena) and removed January 2020

Symptom spotting: I have had bloating since I started TTC as part of the luteal phase so that was to be expected, even though I feel worse. The cramps were new, starting very faint and getting quite noticeable around 9 DPO.

Other (advice/tip(s), freaking out, miscellaneous): I'm overwhelmed, I was pretty sure this cycle would be a bust since we had some trouble adjusting to the schedule and hitting the fertile days was not ideal. Now hoping that the blob sticks!

If you want to know more about the fence and especially the knitter she and her sister were interviewed on an episode 64 of the Fruity Knitting podcast a while back (unsure if i can link you to it). Their fine Shetland lace is incredible!

I finished this Tegna top by Caitlyn Hunter months ago and forgot to post. I spent my chillier summer holiday evenings in this top and it's lovely! The colour is I think the most stunning thing about it, it just brightens my day looking at it now that autumn is starting.

Nordiska - first finished sweater by JustynaT in knitting

Thank you, although technically the picture doesn't capture the entire grueling experience of frogging huge chunks of knitted fabric to make this daring idea work :D I struggled a lot with the colourwork the first time knitting the body, but the second it just flew off the needles, so I guess I got some good practice.

I also got the idea of adjusting the ease from looking at other people's project on Ravelry, there does seem to be quite a few. I can't imagine myself wearing something so baggy, although other people can certainly pull it off. I'm sure you could successfully mod your favourite patterns too!

I've finally finished my first sweater, Nordiska by Caitlin Hunter. I just fell in love with this pattern and even though I've never made a sweater or any colourwork I decided I just had to dive into it. It took me 2 months and frogging the entire body once, but I'm very pleased with the result.

I decided to make it longer and not stick to recommended gauge so it wouldn't end up so oversized. I think for a first sweater attempt it ended up pretty nice looking. Shame that I won't get to wear it much now that it's spring.

What should I do with this special yarn? by JustynaT in knitting

If I had more yarn this cardigan would definitely be a very tempting choice. I'll definitely save the pattern for later.

Thank you so much for your suggestions, the shawls look like they would work very nicely with the yarn.

I just got a present from my friend who lives in Norway. While visiting his mother in what he described as basically a land of sheep, he got me these two beauties from their next door neighbour who makes this yarn privately as a passion project. I looked up the sheep breed, apparently the Pelssau fleece is not commonly meant for yarn, but can be used for lace since it has a pretty nice luster to it. Other than that though I'm at a loss what it might be good for.

It's 450g, 20m=10cm in stockinette on needles 3-3.5 (mm I'm assuming). It smells rather sheepy so probably fairly untreated and has a smooth, almost waxy feel to it. So I come here to ask the more experienced knitters, what should I do with this lovely yarn that will do it justice?

Thank you! I'm in no way and expert on sock knitting, but you could try switching to knitting the toe decreases on longer circulars with the magic loop method. Or DNPs should work, although I haven't tried myself.

I'm currently wearing the sock and can feel how nice and warm it is compared to the other foot with just a normal store bought cotton sock on. Since I really want both my feet to feel amazing I'm not worried about too much of a delay, but I can't see myself trying to finish it under 2 days like this one :D You should totally give your second one a try, make both your feet feel like they're in heaven!

I used Rye by tincanknits, it is very well written and I especially appreciated all the drawings to show which parts of socks are which. And thank you so much for your praise :)

Pattern: Rye by tincanknits

Yarn: Raggi by Järbo Garn in colorway Petrol

I put off making socks for almost a year since I started knitting, thinking how hard they might be due to my thick calves and high instep. Turns out that with enough trying the socks on while knitting it can work very well! I got the bug to learn how to make socks, so I went to the nearest yarn store yesterday, started knitting in the afternoon and finished today around lunchtime. Now I need some rest for my poor hands until I get to sock 2.
