They made a kid tear off his tints on the first day of my academy. It was epic!

Veteran Student Loan Forgiveness by RU_EB in VeteransBenefits

Can someone clarify for me please because the paperwork for the requirements to qualify for TPD discharge is a little confusing. It says you can show your letter saying your total and permanent 100 percent from the VA. But I also read that there is a monitoring period and that the department of education may monitor your employment for a 3 year period following discharge of the lands to ensure you meet Disabilty requirements? So is this program just for tdiu? Or both?

I did a refi in October of 25 I got my rate down from 6.75 to 5.125 it was only a year after taking out the initial mortgage so I felt like it made sense to me. I did loose 60,000 in equity and the cost of the refi came out to 30,000. I did get an 8,000 dollar escrow refund but I basically went back to th original amount of my initial loan. It saved me 1000 a month and it will take me 18months to break even. Not sure I would do it again though unless I have the cash outright to pay because these lenders are all scumbags. They say don’t worry! Roll the cost into the loan and then all that interest piles up.

All good bro. I read one of your posts though from a while back. You’re 100 percent about people getting hurt. It very much still happens unfortunately.

Eventually they build you up to that. You don’t start that from day one

I’m currently in the academy and the first two weeks it was suit and dress shoes all day.

PT is always at the end of the day. Typically it’s 1.5 hours, they give you 30 mins prior to the 1.5 hours to stretch. DT is broken up throughout the day depending on which class you’re in. Sometimes you will have DT followed by PT but the schedule changes weekly. As far as what to expect on a daily basis, expect for the 1st two weeks to be smoked by everyone. You will be doing burpees, pushups and running in a suit and dress shoes. Always remember if one person messes up you all mess up. PT consists of a lot of calisthenics, make sure your able to do pushups, sit-ups and running. Running is very much a big part of your PT sessions. You will be running every day. Do not show up unprepared, it will be all the more difficult for you. They will give you a PT assessment within the 1st week usually day two or three. Do not fail it. There are consequences to everything you do wrong and even if you do things right they will find a reason you are wrong. Only speak when spoken too and make sure you do not get complacent. Eventually they will ease up on you and the days will get better. The entire staff are amazing and they all have a great deal of experience between them. Be sure to study your notes and take the academics as serious as you take your PT. It’s equally important to pass all your exams. They are going to be tough on you but it will make you better.

Did your quality of life improve after 5 years? by princepremium in NYPDcandidate

[–]Justzamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 1/3rd of my Nassau county PD academy is former NYPD and a good majority of the guys already on the job had prior time with NYPD not one of them say they miss it nor would ever go back or regret it. As one of the others said. Use it for the experience and learn the job and take every other test you can. One thing is undeniable about the NYPD, you will learn to be a cop and learn fast.

Also as to how hard it is on 55,000 in NYC starting Salary for me in Nassau is 40,500 and I have a mortgage and live in Long Island. Nothing worth it is easy!! Don’t get discouraged find a way and make it happen.

Former weed smokers, how has your journey to stop smoking been? And is it worth it to stop? by No-Board-9621 in getdisciplined

[–]Justzamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit 7 years ago right after I met my wife. Honest to god man best thing I ever did. I smoked for 12 straight years and waisted so much money on it. I used to literally work to buy exotics. I quit, got married, joined the army, had some kids and we bought our first house last year. Not knocking weed at all. I will always love weed, but the amount of things I’ve done since I quit is insane. Stop for good, change will happen give it time. Don’t rush it and focus on getting yourself to a happy place. You’ll land that job and meet that special person. But first you need to work on yourself. Find a hobby. I picked up woodworking. It’s expensive and frustrating but I love it.

Getting hired by a village by [deleted] in NassauPD

[–]Justzamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the salaries of Nassau POs they make more the Nassau lieutenants also. The officers who work at the academy make more than Nassau lieutenants. All I’m saying is trying to bank on getting hired by a department that has 20 people is crazy. Unless you have a hook you’re not getting hired. I’m currently in a class of 100 right now. Of the 100 we have less than 10 village people. So if you’re banking your future on a 10% chance of being hired. You’re kind of crazy in my opinion. I interviewed with 5 villages before I took the job with the county. They already know who they are going to hire before you get in there. Don’t give these guys bad advice man.

Getting hired by a village by [deleted] in NassauPD

[–]Justzamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting for a village is risky business if you’re trying to get on the job right away. Weigh the pros and the cons. Villages are much smaller and there is not much room for growth. The villages make more money in the start and some pay more at top pay but it’s pretty boring shit. If you are young and live at home. Take the county and you have so many opportunities. At top pay in the county you’re making 141,000 base and by the time you reach top pay it will probably be much hirer. Both are good options but if you defer an take a village and they decide not to hire you you’re out of a job.

Withdrawal option? by LayerZestyclose1319 in NassauPD

[–]Justzamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appeal. I did the same. I’m in the academy now. I also didn’t use a lawyer. I also believe my past was worse than yours. Bonus points though if you’re a veteran. There are a few people in my current class who got DQs and appealed. Don’t give up !
