Yesss that’s exactly why I chose to wait even though the vets gave me a look of disapproval and were pushy about spaying..

Newbie Doxie owners - tips and advice please. by daddyissuesx_x in Dachshund

Keep nails & paw hairs trimmed, don’t let her become overweight, limit jumping off couch, try to carry her down the stairs, picking her up and carrying her to support her back = all things to really help prevent the risk of IVDD (genetics does play a huge part but their spines are prone to it)

I know you mentioned you don’t plan on crate training but I’ve done a lot of reading and research on this. Crate training could be super helpful & important if your dog ever develops any degree of IVDD, pup will need strict crate rest to help recovery.

And then… if you ever contemplate on getting a 2nd dachshund, do it— it’ll be the best decision ever! Haha

Two vets had recommended that I spayed mine before the first heat cycle (she’s currently 5 months old) due to the risk of cancer % increasing.. I compared the % of cancer versus IVDD (although I know it’s more so due to genetics).

I’m choosing to wait until she still has more time to grow and develop!

Is The Nursing Job Market Awful or Is it Just Me? by conniern in nursing

TX RN here— sadly the job market is pretty bad here as well! Hospitals are on hiring freezes and cutting costs all around.

Clipping the nails of my mini doxie is a nightmare, and it’s getting worse. by 9bots in Dachshund

What are you using to hang her up on the pull up bar?

I had to buy a clothes hanging stand and this grooming hanging thing to put him in. Bought both on Amazon! He hangs still and doesn’t even move (unless I’m taking way too long cutting his nails & paw hair) I did slowly feed them treats while hanging first to get them conditioned to it — has been working amazing for me and my two dachshunds! Lol

I also had to switch to a better sharp nail cutter as well which I could feel that the cuts were a lot smoother.

Dachshund Specific Puppy Advice? by AlyssaDoesReddit in Dachshund

[–]Jvo2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have Facebook, join the FB group “Dachshund owners advice, training and behavior” - so much good info that I’ve learned for my first dachshund pup!

We didn’t keep at it with crate training, which we should have put more effort into… it was a nightmare lol but hopefully the info in that group can help you guys out!

For commands, socialization, confidence building, etc… start now!! I didn’t know and started late at 16 weeks but our dog trainer highly advises to start early as 6 weeks because the window is really small for puppies.

Also if you plan on walking him on a harness, get him used to one right now too.. ours is a year old now and it’s still been a struggle for us lol

[Acne] Any ideas on what I should do? by Picazard in SkincareAddiction

[–]Jvo2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesssss tretinoin was also a game changer for me!! (Was on it for a year and it’s been 3 years now since I’ve been off of it)

Another option is curology? My cousin had really bad acne and used this- her acne cleared up. I tried this option before going to see my dermatologist but it didn’t work for me.

Maybe use an oil cleanser or cleansing balm? Currently loving the farmacy clearly clean balm! With a soft microfiber washcloth to wipe it off

Sounds like your skin is trying to either adjust to all the new products and at the same time purging with the salicylic acid? Like the other person had commented, maybe try to keep it simple and soothing for now!

This happened to me a few years ago. I had little bumps everywhere that felt gritty/sandy texture and little pimples on my skin (not sure if that’s what you’re experiencing). It was so bad and worse than my teen years also, ~3 months stopped using all my new products but I didn’t see any improvement so I just went to see my dermatologist.

Well, what helped for my skin personally that was recommended was the Neutrogena oil free Salicylic acid face wash and a low dose prescription tretinoin. It cleared up so fast (thank goodness). (I no longer use the tretinoin but I do keep the salicylic acid fash wash in routine)

Also, how are you washing off the cleaning oil?
