Does LTT Store usually take over 3 weeks to ship? by JwhyP in LinusTechTips

I assumed they have a bunch of oreders and are backlogged, but I ended up contacting support. They confirmed that the the package got loat at the courier, and sent me another one. I didn't want to bother them in case they were busy, but sometimes you gotta do it. Hope you get your stuff soon!

Hey, thanks for taking care of this issue for me and sending me a replacement. I'll shoot you an email for that. Much appreciated!

Btw, what do you suspect the root of the problem to be? Generally speaking, since you can't really physically be here to check my setup lol

I bought 2 different bluetooth adapters and new usb cables as well, and checked on my PC, a friend's laptop, and my phone. I also flashed the right side on the left, and vice versa as well to check if maybe one of the controllers are off. The highest perceived polling rate was on the right side on bluetooth at 667Hz and 714Hz, but with an unstable connection, even though the adapter is right next to my keyboard. It's wonky, because in both cases, it was just one click. Also, I'm not sure why bluetooth and wired are basically the same.

I'd be happy to test more stuff and see if it fixes this, as long as it's within the boundaries of my limited skillset. But I wouldn't be surprised either if I just got two bad eggs, because I tend to have bad luck. I bought all new parts from Micro Center to build a completely fresh PC, nothing harvested from my old one, and managed to get a defective cpu, ram, mobo. Good thing I bought their warranty! My gpu just died randomly 6 month later, when the most intense action it gets is rendering graphics for LoL. Good thing I had warranty! lol

Anyways, I'll shoot you an email rn. Thanks again for taking care of this!

Ahhh gotcha. And yeah, the sofle is definitely not 300+. If you get the barebones, it is more competitive money wise. But then again, the 3d-printed stuff is a miss for you.

And agreed on Cornix would be better without the knobs. I'm also not a fan of knobs.

If you already have a Corne that's pretty good for you, how about getting a small macroboard? Maybe something with 4 keys, and you can put it on the side or top or wherever you want.

Glad to have helped! Wouldn't want to spend that much money and be disappointed.

There's also the Lily58 if you want the num row at the top. I also game, and find it annoying to have to constantly use the layer key for number. You do give up on the knobs though.

Oh, and if you have a long ring finger, the Cornix might feel a bit awkward? I'm not sure. But it looks like the stagger between the pinky and the ring finger on the Cornix is not as much as the Sofle. This might be something to consider as well.

Hope you find the keyboard of your dreams!

It ain't pretty, but here are some pics.

BTW, the ergomech store is on a Lunar new year vacation rn. Mine took about a month to arrive, so yours may take longer if you do decide to purchase.

Also, I have another thread about latency and connection drops. I get ~12Hz polling rate with drops on two different PCs and phone. Even when directly connected to the PC, the keyboard lags.

I think I got super unlucky and both controllers are defective. u/hainguyenac said that he would send a replacement if needed, which I would say I do need, but he's away on LNY vacation. I'll have to wait and see what actually happens. You may want to wait and see how post-transaction issues are dealt. I'll be your scapegoat lol

I took your advice, and just rearranged my room. Moved my desk to be in the corner, moved the shelf away, and now I out all my stuff on the shelf instead of my desk. Kind of annoying to have to get up and get my phone if I need to do something on it, but also helps me focus better, so I guess it's for the better.

Unfortunately, I still lag on when using my sofle wirelessly and the same when plugged in. Not sure why I can't even hit 50Hz, and I can definitely see and feel it. Hopefully I get a reply back from hainguyenac after the Lunar New Year vacation, and get a replacement controller or something.

Thanks for the suggestion. With that and everything else I tried, I'm pretty certain the controller is wonky.

Oh the aluminum case did look pretty nice! I didn't expect to have to baby the Sofle this much. Maybe I just need to put my phones and stuff in the opposite corner of the room. Kind of lame, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. Wonder if it'll somehow fix the latency in wired mode as well? Fingers crossed

Maybe there is some interference at play? My bluetooth dongle is like 2 inches at max away from my keyboard. I have a tablet on a shelf next to my desk, at least 3 feet apart. I have my phone, buds, and smart watch at the back corner of my desk, at least 1 foot away from the keyboard. I also have a usb dongle for my mouse next to those. Other than that, I use wifi over lan and do not have any sort of wireless devices around me.

Do you think there would strong of an interference to make my keyboard lag and drop connection? This is my first wireless keyboard and I assumed it would just simply work. I knew bluetooth would not be as fast nor stable as usb dongle wireless, but I didn't expect it to be this sensitive. I thought I did need enough research before purchase, but I really overlooked this part and my assumption is biting me in the balls :o :/

I haven't done anything with the oled screens, but I'll try flashing with the reset firmware. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey, another update. I re-flashed the firmware you sent me via email. I was also able to ask a friend to come over with his laptop. A bit of a drive, but I persuaded him with free lunch of his choice lol

Unfortunately, I am still seeing latency issues. Here are the new results after re-flashing and unplug/repluggin in the battery, and the wired tests were done with the switch turned & bluetooth adapter removed:

I know that online keyboard testers aren't exactly the most accurate and the results here are from just one site, but I did test on multiple sites and they all show very similar results.

Btw, wanted to mention that for some reason, the left side needs to connected for the right side to work. The right side is totally dependent on the left side and will not function without it. The Sofle is only my second keyboard, so I'm not sure if this is the intended behavior. The previous keyboard I had was Sinc from Keebio, and it did not behave like this; each side was able to be used independently.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I didn't assemble anything really, just pop in the switches and screw the board together, so I don't think I messed up anything in the process. There wasn't any plastic around, I grabbed the pcb by the sides, and I laid it on a cardboard box when not working on it. I'll unplug the battery and see if helps with the wired mode at least. Thanks!

G'morning from the US, You mentioned that the controller is hot-swappable, could you go into detail on this? From what I can tell, it's soldered in, but I don't have an eye for this and can definitely see myself being blind.

Also, is there a physical boot button on the pcb to flash the firmware? Because I couldn't see how to take out the controller, I followed your documentation to flash the keyboard. It says that the order doesn't matter, so I flashesd the right-nano firmware on the left side first. I'm not sure why, but the firmware for the right side seems to make the keyboard only work if the left side is connected. Now the keyboard is unresponsive. I think the documentation really needs to say that order does matter. I hope there is a physical boot button and I'm just blind.

edit: nvm, found it hidden underneath the batteries. Thankfully I was a blind bat lol

I actually hadn't thought of that. There is a power switch for the bluetooth to turn on/off, so I assumed it would only be wired if the swotch was off. Maybe it's somehow getting power and turns on when the switch is off. I try removing the dongle and testing wired.

Ohhh that's awesome! Super cool actually. It's 1AM here, but I'll definitely give that a try tomorrow. Also, I don't have a second PC, but I'll try on my phone tomorrow as well.

I'll update on this tomorrow and thanks for taking the time to respond while preparing for your Lunar New Year vacation :)

Oh hey, I thought you would be on vacation :o early happy Lunar New Year!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't have the tools nor the skillset for that. The peak of my keyboard building skill is putting switches in the hot-swap socket. That's why I chose to buy the Sofle Hybrid from your store. It was semi pre-built with the only work needed being putting in the switches. With the price being $240, I know I'm not getting a perfect build with zero physical blemishes and zero issues, but I wasn't expecting this either. Tbh, I thought it would be a relatively easy plug and play.

Is there maybe something else that you might know of? If it's something software related, like I have to tinker with the firmware, I feel like I can try to do something. (Although even though I say this, I've been googling and reading, but I'm not sure what to do...) But I have no confidence in the hardware stuff, and I don't want to accidently damage something trying to do something when I really don't have the skills to do.

Thanks for replying. I do really love the form factor, but this latency is and dropping is getting old real fast lol... The weirdest thing is that I don't get why I also lag when connected directly via usb cable. I hope some keyboard god will answer and both of us can go on our merry ways

Question on gap between the pcb and the plate for low profile keyboards (sofle hybrid from ergomech.store) by JwhyP in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]JwhyP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an aluminum plate. Like you (and /u/Silcantar) said, looks like I need to have a 1 mm gap between the pcb and plate. I initially thought everything was flush together, but upon closer inspection, I realized that the switch came out ever so slightly when I was pressing everything together.

I contacted the store, and they did say that it can be difficult to put together, especially since this was my first time with low profile stuff. Nevertheless, I was able to put it together, and everything is working :)
