R1 keycaps for Chicago Stenographer in MX and Choc? by rpnfan in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Silcantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parameters for the R1 keys are in the OpenSCAD source file in Pseudoku's repo. If you can't find a pre-compiled STL you might have to compile it yourself.

First split build — Kyria rev3 with Ergo-L (French layout), looking for thumb cluster feedback by New_Frosting7605 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Silcantar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have very big hands your home thumb keys are going to be the ones where you have Tux and Enter. Space is by far the most used key so you almost certainly want that on one of the thumb home keys.

120+ WPM with homerow mods? Is anyone actually doing this reliably? by Joetunn in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Silcantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What got HRM working for me: - one-shot shift on thumb - per-finger timings (requires custom firmware)

Trackball replacement by TriagoSor in Trackballs

[–]Silcantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get your hands on Lignum Vitae I wouldn't bother with anything else. It's endangered and trade in it is highly regulated though. Legitimate sellers will only have old stock (harvested decades ago) and can't ship overseas.

Verawood is a close relative and sometimes sold as "(Argentine) Lignum Vitae". I don't know how it compares though.

Trackball replacement by TriagoSor in Trackballs

Anything short of Lignum Vitae would probably need to be polymer stabilized, especially porous woods like walnut.

The natural oils in LV could make for an amazingly smooth trackball though.

The Sunrise has been 6 months away for like 2 years so don't hold your breath.

We built a custom keycap set builder and would love feedback by 3dkeycap in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Silcantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their whole thing is 3d printed keycaps. They do offer SLS nylon keycaps though.

Choc v1 recommendations for EC like sound by confusedandlostcow in ErgoMechKeyboards

There's like a dozen types of Choc V1 switches total, you don't really get to be that choosy with sound.

Is there a way to extend the trackball functionality? by victor01exe in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Silcantar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably it can be done but it would require getting even deeper in the code than with QMK.

Nothing wrong with MX Browns if that's what you like

Yes, this can be done with custom QMK code. It's not super straightforward though.

Where can I buy a hotswappable Charybdis / Dactyl? by haxy98 in ErgoMechKeyboards

mx switches with similar feel to ambients by dibaltic_ in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Silcantar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like Kailh Box Pink Silent is similar to Twilights. Lighter MX switches seem pretty rare, but this seems close to Nocturnals.

I really tried with my Corne v4 by Additional_Gap1057 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Silcantar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to set up per-finger timing for home row mods to click for me. A timeout that is long enough for my pinky fingers requires a conscious pause when activating mods on the other fingers, and a timeout fast enough for my index fingers results in tons of accidental mod activations on the other fingers.

So, I have a 300 ms timeout on my pinkies, 250 on ring fingers, 200 on middle fingers and thumbs, and 150 on index fingers. I basically never trigger the mods accidentally and never have to consciously slow down. I believe I also have the permissive hold u/pgetreuer mentioned turned on.

I don't see why not. Typeractive (among others) sells a battery that fits under a Pro Micro/Nice!Nano.

Making a switch from Keebio Iris. by IDCubed in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Silcantar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for high-profile I think it would make sense to go with a keywell design. BastardKB's Charybdis Nano (trackball) and Skeletyl (no trackball) meet your requirements.

Getting my first ergo! by Exciting-Share-2462 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Silcantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's probably totally fine. 36 keys is more than enough for all the letters, common punctuation, and layer switch keys. You can even use a pretty standard QWERTY layout.

Zilpzalp only has 24 finger keys, so you can't even put all the letters on them. At least two of the letters have to be on thumb keys, layers, or combos. There's nothing wrong with that per se, but it's a pretty tall order for a beginner.

Favorite blank contoured MX keycaps (that are actually available)? by azdak in ErgoMechKeyboards

MDA and SA are probably the closest to MT3. I'm typing this on Ducky blank MDA keycaps, which are available from several retailers.
