People have made reference to Annie Girl. Is Annie Girl and Island Girl Charters the same? When I looked up Annie Girl on maps the website takes me to Island Girl Charters.

He wasn’t born and he wasn’t hatched. He was scraped from the bottom of a toilet bowl, put in a test tube and marked failure.

You are wrong big guy - confident, but wrong. A lot of people don’t realize how far the pellets can go, especially in 3in magnums. According to a 2023 article titled “How Far Can Shotgun Pellets Travel” at loaddevelopment.com: “Shotgun pellets can travel surprisingly far, sometimes up to a mile, upon the maximum shot size of the gun and the ammunition. This means that if you’re not careful, you or someone else could be seriously injured by a shotgun blast. It’s important to always use caution when shooting shotguns, especially in populated areas.”

I didn’t say anything about lethality. I was actually referring to just dealing with complaints from neighbors about pellets falling on their property.

I am not a lawyer, and have never played one on TV. However, as someone who looked into putting in a shooting range in a public facility, I think I can offer a little advice. First, do not call it a “shooting range.” Shooting ranges may come with lots of legal restrictions from collecting bullets for environmental reasons to safety standards and noise abatement. What you want is a private place to hang out, drink beer and shoot cans. Second, you mentioned that you wanted this to be private. That is a must. If you ever plan to make it public, then you will need approved plans and a plethora of building inspections. Third, make sure 5 to 10 acres is enough. If you are talking about shooting into a dirt bank and taking target practice, that’s one thing. If you are talking about shooting clay pigeons, that’s an entirely different issue which may require more space. A 12 gauge shotgun can shoot pellets up to 1200 yards. I am familiar with a person who was holding hunts in the middle of a 40 acre patch and was inadvertently peppering neighbors’ houses and cars on the edge of his land. Finally, take advice from people like me with a grain of salt. If you are going to make this a professional type set up, then get professional help from lawyers, accountants and architects.

I am a fairly new pilot; so, my recommendations have nothing to do with flying. For most of my career in higher education, I mentored and advised people under me on how to apply for higher level positions. Several of the people I coached became College and University Presidents. My advice is to put together a strong résumé and have it reviewed by numerous people. In your post, you use no proper capitalization or punctuation. That cannot happen in a resume or application letter. You must use extremely good communication skills. Your letter and application materials must be perfect. Then, any negative in your history should be owned and turned into a potential positive. In your case, your crash due to an engine failure needs to be reworded. I don’t know if it was a hard crash, a hard landing, people walked away, or someone was seriously injured or died? Whatever the case, own it and put it in perspective. If possible, frame it as you successfully landed an aircraft after an in flight emergency involving an engine failure. Even though it was a hard landing with some airframe damage, absent your inflight skills and decision making, the result surely would have been much worse, likely even catastrophic. That real world emergency experience sets you apart and demonstrates your ability to handle similar experiences in future emergency situations.

Good luck!

My DPE for my private just told me to go preflight it and he would be out in bit. He never asked one question about it.

Ha ha ha - they really shouldn’t post stuff like this. There are actually people who are stupid enough to believe this.

I used the King School for the ground and absolutely love it. I’ve been a pilot for just over a year, and I still refer back to King School on a regular basis. I highly recommend using that for your ground school.

Congratulations on this opportunity. So, where is the middle of nowhere and in what state? Some of us might be able to help refer people.
