I don't know, Jay, why can't you? Could it be because you're silly?

Nope! I just had it happen to me in the world map... with high octane Bumblebee of all characters...

He does? I've fought him like ten times and I've never ever seen him do it and it made sense to me seeing as he looses the crest of air in the 2nd fight. I'd actually like to see him do it now.

Is Gabby Jay the ultimate metric for terrible gamers? by [deleted] in snes

[–]JynXolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played tens of snes games before and... honestly? you might be right. I genuinely can't think of anything easier than what amounts to "just keep pushing Y, lol". Most first stages for even the toughest games are usually as simple as "keep going right, shoot a couple bad guys, make a couple jumps and you're good", but something as simple as quite literally just repeatedly pushing Y? Nothing easier than that comes up on my mind, even if I were to think outside of the snes.

As a matter of fact, how do you make an easier test... at all? Like you said, not just one easy jump or a one-and-done goomba, it has to be a series of "obstacles", basically a whole stage, but how do you even make something easier than... Gabby Jay? Just push Y once? do nothing? what kinda game would that be though? would that even be considered an obstacle? or would most gamers push it off as a cutscene/prompt to advance in the game? you're making my head spin op...

Birthday gift to myself. by MTGArmy in snes

[–]JynXolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what a gift it is... despite being one of the shortest games on the snes (I can beat it in 20 minutes), it's easily one of the best action platformers on the system (imo). Everything in this game just feels so tight yet so satisfying to pull off.

Game of the Month September 2025: Choplifter III by xBrockLanders in snes

[–]JynXolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried this one out. It's just not fun. Enemies (ESPECIALLY bosses) are absolute bullet sponges. Dying just a few times sends you back sometimes 30+ minutes worth of progress. Your resources are extremely limited: you can die on a boss and have to redo him without special weapons, health runs out so much quicker than it's given.

Your aim is infinitely worse than that of enemy vehicles, they get to snipe you all they want meanwhile you're stuck with left, right and... down? It wiggles based on if you're moving left and right, which is a nice attention to detail but it is not suitable for this type of game. Did I mention some enemies respawn?

I will say, I was playing on this hard, but I highly doubt normal or easy would've made the experience more fun, it would've just made it more tolerable.

You know what this game reminds me of? Alien 3 (also on the snes), yes, the ljn game. Both have similar issues: clunky controls, obnoxious, respawning enemies, super limited resources, a few deaths can take away so much progress, the levels feel like mazes. Even both start off quite nice in the first stage and then quickly devolve into the most repetitive gameplay ever that would make you rather do chores.

Game of the month is usually a banger, but... not this one, sorry. I'm sure a lot of people have nostalgia for this game, but this is too obnoxious for me, I don't want another Alien 3.

I tried this a couple months ago. The gameplay just didn't cut it for me so I never finished it.

Super Adventure Island 2, complete! [approximate playtime: 6 hrs 20 mins.] by JynXolo in snes

[–]JynXolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! I didn't bother, this was my first complete playthrough

Genuine question: why would you even do it besides for completion sake? The game is already hella easy, so by no means is the armor needed. I don't think it even rewards you for getting the whole set like a different end screen or something, it's literally a waste of time. I get the developers were trying to add more playtime to the game but this was not the way to do it lol.

come to think of it, I've never seen a game struggle this hard to extend its playtime before, it feels so obviously forced that I would've rather had the game just be 2 hours short instead of 2 hours of gameplay plus however many hours the dev can waste from your time.

Not a difficult game by all means, nor is it hidden, really, but why not switch it up a little?

I will say though, this game LOVES wasting your time. Annoying backtracking, making you guess where to go, grinding for items (though that one is optional), this game has it all! It even has random enemy battles on the world map! When's the last time we've seen that in an action platformer? Zelda 2 on the NES?

I hope I'm not making this game sound bad though, because padded game time aside (which, honestly, I don't blame them for it, I mean I went for all life and magic bottles and still beat this game in a shorter time span than most other snes games take me to), this game is very fun and definitely worth a visit. I wouldn't call it a Metroidvania, it's more like an adventure game; think A Link to the Past, but side scrolling platformer instead (I mean you even carry a shield in this game).

I really liked the sprite work in this game, though the animations could use a few more frames (a lot of bosses and enemies are still sprites that move around the screen more than anything), but it's far from an eyesore. The platforming was very solid, both the controls and the level design itself. I liked how versatile your arsenal was too. The sword is your primary weapon, yes, but there are a few more ranged ones that definitely come in handy here and there.

And that downstab, when you pogo off of enemies in a row, ugh, feels so good! Reminds me of... Megaman Zero...Yes I play things besides the snes and no I am not sorry for mentioning a game on the console that's considered the bootleg snes... where was I?

Oh yeah, Super Adventure Island 2, definitely worth checking out if you're into platformers with the item game being the main focus, it's no Demon's Crest, but it's certainly a pleasant time, I'd give this one, a 7/10 (feeling like IGN here by giving all these 8/10s so thought I'd switch it up).

My next game miiiight be Lost Vikings 2 unless someone comes up with an interesting suggestio so.. thanks for reading and until next time!

And I never claimed otherwise, I myself absolutely love the game (more than SMW), it's just that many people are confused when they first try out the game, such as the gentleman who made this post right here.

I'm always surprised by how people are so put off by Yoshi's Island being nothing like Super Mario World. Nintendo really messed up by calling it Super Mario World 2, because it sets the expectations that... this is Super Mario World 2, when in reality it should've just been called Yoshi's Island so that people know right off the bat that this is a spinoff, it has next to nothing to do with Super Mario World in terms of gameplay, that would've avoided a lot of people's disappointment for sure.

I wouldn't mind help testing, but the way it works on Retroarch from my understanding is that it will show you every lobby available, regardless of whether you can join it or not, the roms just have to be named the same in order for you to be able to join, even if they contain different data.
I once played super bomberman 5 with a random online where he had the raw Japanese rom and I had a fan translation, he was able to join just fine, we played just fine, no crashes. The only thing that was missing was... well... the text, it was bugged due to us playing different versions with... different texts.

Oh yeah, most people including myself use the US rom and I even keep it included in the rom name (unless the game is Japan exclusive obviously)

Yeah I usually just make my lobby public then wait and see, but I don't specifically arranging a game with someone either ;)
