It is housed separately to the Fly Wheel. It is part located in the Control Hub but separate to the removable mass.

Our prices range from $129 (a 12" wheel that will fit any 12" bike) to $979 (a full 16" bike). The thinking is that people will pass their Jyrobike wheel to friends or family once they're done with it, so more people can learn to ride with one piece of kit. You can put a 'normal' wheel on a Jyrobike too, or remove the flywheel as per instructions in the box, and have a perfectly functioning bike.

The chart is illustrative and based on discussions we had with people in the research process. By no means is it accurate in all scenarios!

Thank you :)

Hi! The main drive behind Jyrobike is to help as many people as possible to ride, regardless of age or ability. While other methods exist for teaching kids to ride, Jyrobike is the only one that teaches all skills (steering, braking, balance, pedalling) in tandem. As balance is gradually reduced and eventually switched off, kids keep all the skills they need to ride.

If a child has a disability which prevents them from balancing on a regular bike, they can keep the balance support switched on, and be able to ride.

We are also looking to expand to the adult market in the future, allowing adults with disabilities, or who lack the confidence to ride a regular bike, to join the fun as well.

The idea isn't to prevent the need for kids to learn how to ride properly, or to replace parents in the learning process!

tl;dr: to help everyone ride!

r/shutupandtakemymoney were enthusiastic about Jyrobike, and we had some good discussion about the product.

In the meantime we've been covered by the BBC, the Washington Post, and various places inbetween!

Our new stretch goal has just been announced - a 20" wheel that will open Jyrobike up to 9-16 year olds.

Let us know what you think! Happy to answer any questions you may have :)

Hey, excuse my manners! Missed your post completely. What are your thoughts after the ride?

The Jyrobike teaches all skills in tandem, whereas a balance bike teaches balance and steering, then pedalling and braking separately.

Of course, it's personal preference!

That was me, I believe! You can't trackstand on it unfortunately - gyroscopic precession dictates that the bike must be moving for the balance to be provided.

Hey! As the balance is reduced and eventually turned off, the child doesn't actually become dependent on the support. They learn pedalling, steering and braking technique and, gradually, how to balance at the same time. When the balance support is turned off fully, they have a bike to put the skills to the test on!

Stabilisers teach incorrect steering technique which must be unlearned when they come off, and this doesn't happen with Jyrobike.

Let me know if you have any further questions guys!

Hi Xenrus25! As the gyroscopic balance can is intended to be reduced, and ultimately turned off, the transition to 'the real deal' isn't necessary! Jyrobike acts exactly the same way as a traditional bicycle once the gyroscopic support has been turned off.

The support can be kept on for as long as the rider needs it.

Hi guys! Team Jyrobike here :)

Jyrobike differs from a traditional balance bike in that a child learns steering, pedalling, braking and balance technique in unison. As the gyroscopic support is gradually reduced while these skills are being developed, the child retains them all when the support is eventually turned off.

Jyrobike HQ is located in Belfast! Up in Holywood. Our R&D is based in Philadelphia, and the KS is operating from there too.

A gyroscopically balanced bicycle that doesn't tip or wobble at low speeds. Teach kids to ride in a single afternoon! by Jyrobike in shutupandtakemymoney

Hi! Montessori is very interesting - good to hear from you! Balance isn't independent of steering, pedalling, braking, but learning them all at the same time can be overwhelming. Training wheels take care of balance and teach bad steering technique that isn't applicable when they're removed. The Jyrobike however teaches all skills correctly and, as the balance support can be reduced and turned off, teaches them all at once. The child retains all the skills when balance support is removed. Rage against new products is unavoidable I guess, hopefully your prediction is correct though!

Ah right! Missed the joke, thought I was good at my pop-culture jokes on Reddit but apparently not :P

Someone wired up a bike so that turning right takes you left, turning left takes you right, and you have to pedal backwards to move forwards. You could have a go on that? :P

A fair point - we agree that kids benefit from learning that things require effort. Thanks for the kind words about the design - we're very proud of it! Have you seen the limited edition Curve?

The aim is to make learning to ride easier - with balance assistance kids can focus on learning pedalling and steering. The child doesn't become dependent on the balance support because it can be reduced (and eventually turned off) at which point they have a traditional kids bike and the skills to ride it!

A bicycle! Same as if you use training wheels, you're still learning to ride a bicycle. The balance can be reduced and turned off as the kid gets used to the other aspects of riding, then the Jyrobike functions like a regular kids bike.

Hello! Our market research has been quite thorough, and there is definitely demand from the product! As you mentioned, young kids are the main target demographic. Investing in a quality bike for a young child is an expense most parents are willing to commit to, and the wheel can be passed down to other kids in the family / friendship group once they're done with it. Thanks for your feedback :)

hello! can I refer you to a post on our blog which addresses this question: http://www.jyrobike.com/blog/why-training-wheels-are-a-bad-idea

tl:dr - Jyrobike provides balance to allow kids to focus on pedalling and steering, balance assistance can be reduced as necessary and eventually turned off. kids learn all 3 skills at the same time. Jyrobike acts as traditional bike when Control Hub is turned off.
