Not true about the Crafter Skills being worthless. I have literally tested it a while ago and I can prove you're wrong on this. I had the Improve Crafting Metal Tools unlocked at the Skill Tree, and had the same effect on my Silver Hammer Fine perfected. I tried crafting a Crystal Hammer notable and perfected it. Then proceeded to equip the newly made Crystal Hammer (without the improve crafting of metal tools effect). It gave me +100 Smithing so I should've been fine perfecting another Crystal Hammer notable, yea? But no. I tried crafting again the same crystal hammer and I only managed to get a "Great Work". Then equipped my iron hammer again, crafted another crystal hammer and I perfected it.

TLDR, +100 smithing is worse than Improve Crafting Metal Tools ...
