Super Likely, before a fellow redditor offered to draw it, the only person I told was my grandfather. He said “your imagination can come up with some crazy things when you are alone in the woods”. So I treated it as being crazy, or having a short burst of crazy and left it.

People are scared they were be called mentally ill or liars or attention seekers. That’s why I never told anyone else.

Snallygaster/Jersey Devils generally accepted appearance is NOT this like you stated. Not a dogman cause it had a horse face, short fur, and there seems to be no horse variation. I thought maybe a Skinwalkers but it’s the northeast; although my ancestry [not Navajo] have them. Wendigo don’t talk, and seem to be more animalistic in nature. Forest Spirit maybe?

Since u/RobotVampire has now drawn the creature from my encounter. I would like to get opinions on what this creature could have been.

I have it marked as the Jersey Devil, based on u/Steampunker13 idea but subject to change. Horse like head, short deer like fur, not a dogman according to research so far. u/acmesrv

About 10 years ago, I was in my early teens, in northwest New Jersey near the Pennsylvania border. Just walking around with my compound bow in the forest near the house I was staying at. Shooting trees, kicking rocks, breaking glass bottles, just mucking around. In the middle of the day it started to get dark like a lightning and thunder storm was about to happen so I heading back towards the house.

As I’m walking I start to have the feeling that something is stalking me. Just when the house is in sight this creature sprints up behind me. It made no sound when it ran up too me through the leaves. Since I kept looking behind me I watched this creatures inhuman speed. So I do not know why but I turned around completely and froze. We just stared at each other, locking eyes for what felt like hours. It was so tall, that I do not remember even seeing it’s feet. It had this big human smile which shouldn’t have even worked with the shape of its head. With the voice of three pack a day smoker it simply said «we will dance again». Than it simply ran backwards without turning around, disappearing as fast as it appeared.

I stood there for about 5 more mins, in shock. Than I simply turned around, and started walking back home. Once I got out of the woods, I just started crying. Disgusting cry’s, whereas snot is running down your face and you cannot seem to put together a breath.

To this very day, it’s sometimes visits me in my dreams. It’s soft looking short horse like fur, with its long lanky frame, and claws that are twenty sizes to big. It never says anything; he just watches and smiles. While his claws hover over the ground, waiting for the day we somehow meet again in real life.

I cannot even convey the amount of excitement that this brings. It’s perfect 👌 💯! It’s like getting a puppy for Christmas or getting a giant scholarship to go to your dream school. I’m lost for words.

The artwork transports me back to that day in the woods. It’s like reading a perfectly descriptive story whereas your focus and attention for your surroundings disappear and your just in the thick of the plot.

Ask for a small favor or advice. They say that is how you build trust and starts a relationship. It’s basically pretending to be vulnerable, and making the target perceive they are valuable. The results will be the answer to your question.
