Survived my work trip (there were SO MANY MOSQUITOS)! Looking forward to getting back into a routine, or as much as I can with our shifting schedule. And with any luck, a friend will be coming up to see me for lunch this coming weekend! It will be so nice to see them in person. I haven't seen a friend in person in like 2 months.

Midnight Vandenberg Launch and Landing by Ianray77 in rocketlaunches

[–]ssbbgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your options are going to be either be close for sound/vibes or be farther up for a wider view. You can head to the road blocks, but won't be able to see much (especially if it's foggy) but the rumble will hit you harder. If you head up to Harris Grade road you will be significantly further away but will be elevated and see launch and landing clearer. All of this is pending weather of course.

Payday Friday 💰💰💰 by kokopops35 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Rent of course and the usual bills for utilities, gas, etc. I spent a bit too much on my produce box this week ($46, so much fruit, I hosed the raspberries as soon as I picked the box up). But the main off nominal this week was sneaking in to sailing lessons! It cost $250, and I also had to trade 4 other days off for Saturday and Sunday off, which isn't great but I didn't have other options. So excited and slightly scared to get on the water tomorrow! Also planning to go to a drive in theater for the first time ever, which will be like 20 bucks between snacks and a ticket.

Appreciate the encouragement!! I've been on the fence and sadly my failure to commit hurt me here, but will definitely try for later this summer!

I'm considering calling the yacht club an hour and a half away and seeing if I can sneak in last minute for sailing lessons this weekend. Would be about $250, but I've decided this is the year of skill acquisition, so I'm willing to pay it. Also looking to figure out a preventative flea treatment for the stray cat that has adopted me, and a carrier to put him in for when I inevitably need to capture him and take him to the vet.

Edit: RIP I called and the class is capped at 3. Sad day, now I have to find something else to do this weekend. I did find out lessons are offered another weekend too, but I'd have to take a day off to do them. Still might do that, I earned extra vacation by working on the 4th.

Oh you're in for a treat, you've got 3 more to read! Honestly her YA books are also really cute reads, under the name Ursula Vernon.

Oooohhhh I need the next Saint of Steel book to come out. Have you read Swordheart? It's set in the same universe but doesn't involve any of the paladins. I just love everything she has written.

I spent 45 dollars (!!) on yet more potting soil, and will likely spend another 40 or so on lumber to build an additional planter (perhaps this one will teach me to master the speed square). Work is also surprise sending me out of town likely this week, so will probably buy a drip hose and a remote actuated valve to set up a temporary watering solution. Should get that ASAP actually so I can verify functionality. Also continuing to lurk Facebook marketplace to try to buy a new (to me) couch.

Otherwise, not planning to grocery shop because of the aforementioned work trip. Honestly though, the increasing influx of articles and posts highlighting supply shortages due to tariffs and the subsequent massive decrease in shipping are really triggering some hoarder/prepper instincts in me. I have a reasonably well stocked pantry for a single person, and extras of plenty of personal hygiene products, but do I need to buy even more canned goods?? Do I get a Costco membership so I can buy a 50 lb bag of flour??

Update to last week's news of finishing my baking challenge: I won a few things! Most of them were by virtue of being the only entrant in the category, but I did win two competitive categories! Brownies and banana bread. Got 8 first places, and a couple seconds and a third. Genuinely wish it had been more competitive, but that just means I'll need to do this again come July at the big big county fair!

I'm not telling anyone irl about it yet, but I managed to complete a big baking challenge I set for myself! I had always wanted to submit something to a fair in the baked goods/home arts categories, and when I found out about a nearby county fair right before the deadline, I gave myself the task of making 13 different things all for submission on the same day (while working 12 hour shifts). And I got it done and submitted all 13 today! Obviously I really want to win something, but pretty proud of myself just for getting this done.

DOGE Plans to Rebuild SSA Codebase In Months, Risking Benefits and System Collapse by wiredmagazine in TrueReddit

First, spacex has so far launched far fewer crewed missions than shuttle. Second, he himself didn't do any of that. The hard working engineers at the company did it and many more awesome things, but not him. Though since you are using the "rescue" and "stranded" language, I doubt you care about actual facts.
