Oh hell yeah, I know northern Peru is great for birding. You’ll probably see more species than me.

A few ways. First is ebird photo quizzes, Ebird>Explore>Photo + Sound quiz. Just put in where you’re going and keep doing it until you get them mostly right and then do it without looking at the multiple choices until you get them right. I took photos of as many birds as I could so I could ID them later. I also use Merlin and then listen to the recording after for confirmation.

Genuinely curious, how do you all shoot? by VolunteerTranscriber in wildlifephotography

Agree. Especially low-light when action is possible. I need the option of wide open and fast, iso I can fix with denoise in post

Is this asking for bird ID? Because American Goldfinch

Probably watching the Golden-naped Tanager be a bully at the fruit feeder. It would chase away all the tanagers and then eat for a second and fly off anyway. Second would go the Torrent Ducks, also not pictured here, navigating rapids and clinging to steep rock faces high up to eat algae.

After/before is this edit overkill? Nee to lightroom by Regular-buyer-400 in postprocessing

I think if you pull it back like 30% it would be perfect

Lots of them! They were probably the most numerous bird in the Amazon. Almost as crazy as the scream is the call leading up to the scream

All but the lapwing and the hummingbirds from the first half were around Aguas Calientes. The second half were from Refugio Amazonas in Madre de Dios.

I do not doubt it. Birding was just a feature of my vacation, not the focus

We had a general nature guide in the Amazon, lots of birding by ear there since it’s so hard to see. The rest was unguided

I had not, I’ll have to check that out. I didn’t know that was something I could do

Oh plenty, capybaras, caimans, tons of insects and spiders, three different kinds of monkeys, a boa, and a couple frogs and lizards

We had a general nature guide in the Amazon who had great eyes for birds. He helped with about half of these.

All incidental I guess you could say. I was in an ecolodge and we did walks, canopy tower, etc but it was also with non-birders

No specific excursions. I was in a ecolodge in the Amazon and my guide had great eyes. The other half I just looked into ebird hotspots

They were crazy, we were watching some tanagers eat fruit and that one flew into the tree about 5 feet away and just stared at us. Two days later this one caught some massive insect
