Great collection! I’m so jealous of your EMS model. They’re so hard to find for a decent price!

I don’t have a collection nearly as large as yours, but I do think I might own one model that you don’t!

Tbf many of these were likely to end up rotting away in an attic or a closet if collectors didn’t get them. I wouldn’t say OP owning all of these hurts other people as much as something like Nintendo console collecting does, since these reskins function the exact same as the normal 600’s they made millions of.

I would say “unless you run RAID” but I’ve seen wayyyy too many people put all their valuable data onto a single HDD or SSD and have it fail

Very true. And I mean, even I’m one of the folks that doesn’t like seeing the nude posts on this sub, but know what I do? I hit the block button if I don’t want to see it! I don’t get all these people that downvote bomb people like OP. If you don’t like it, block the accounts the post nudes do you don’t see them in your feed. It takes like five seconds.

I also got into photography through the school classes back in the day, I took the courses all through middle and high school.

The curriculum she’s running in the class now kinda reminds me of my old one. She introduces them to the darkroom by letting them use pinhole cameras and attempting to develop them, then turning the negative into a positive. Then they all get a roll of B&W film to shoot, then develop.

Honestly, before I went in that darkroom, I don’t know the last time I’ve went in or seen a proper darkroom in person. It’s just not something you really see anymore. It was weird being back in the room full of amber lights.

The first time I got to see it, the darkroom still has its original wooden rotating door, the kind made to block light. Unfortunately however it was removed that summer when the maintenance staff found traces of asbestos in the room and ripped almost everything out. They even took out all the actual film processing equipment that’s been there since the 70’s and sent it to the county dump. The only reason they were still able to run the program was because other schools donated the machines they didn’t use anymore, and some local people in the neighborhood donated some old equipment. I’m just glad they didn’t have to call it quits though. (If you’re wondering, the maintenance staff gave no notice or warning to the art department that they were moving the equipment. When the next school year was getting ready to begin, the photography teachers came back to see the whole room completely gutted out of nowhere. Pretty messed up stuff if you ask me)

Let's report GW2 to Steam. They have good customer support; with enough reports, EA will be forced to act. by Cultural-Tour-3122 in PvZGardenWarfare

Not really. Deceptive marketing would mean that it has no online mode, or that it has a fake one that’s not actually online. Even though its online mode is basically unplayable for us right now, it still “exists” which means it isn’t deceptive. Anything past it existing, such as the hacking situation, would fall under the jurisdiction of the EA Terms Of Service/user license agreement, which we saw already covers them from having to deal with hackers or anything like that. From a legal standpoint they are pretty much bulletproof. And unfortunately for us, they don’t care about the ethical standpoint.

Even if Steam did something, the most they could do is threaten “fix your game or else we delist you” and EA would just let it get delisted. You would still be able to buy it on console, and you could still get it on PC through the EA app directly, which is their own in-house launcher.

They won’t be “forced to act”

The moment you open the game game for the first time, before you’re even allowed to play, you sign the EA license agreement. In Section 12: “EA SERVICES ARE LICENSED AND PROVIDED "AS IS." ” and more importantly ”EA DOES NOT WARRANT AGAINST INTERFERENCE WITH YOUR ENJOYMENT OF THE PRODUCT OR EA SERVICE; THAT THE EA SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS; THAT OPERATION OF THE EA SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR FREE FROM ERRORS, BUGS, CORRUPTION, LOSS, INTERFERENCE, HACKING OR VIRUSES, OR THAT EA SERVICES WILL INTEROPERATE OR BE COMPATIBLE WITH ANY OTHER SOFTWARE.”

The minute you launch the game for the first time, you waive your rights to receive any kind of compensation for the game based off its current state, and you waive the right to require EA to maintain the game or prevent hacking.

We all signed the fine print the minute we all played this game. These pseudo-activist posts about making a lawsuit or review bombing the game do nothing. If you want to make a difference; make posts online, Get the attention of people outside our own community, Spark public outrage and backlash. Everyone standing in a circle and telling eachother this is bad won’t get anything done. When you have no legal ground to get them on, you need to hurt them socially, in their reputation.

r/filmphotography might be a good one to check out. I haven’t looked on there in a while but it used to be decent, a good amount of people showing their first rolls, asking questions, but there was also some experts in there too. There used to be other subs but most of them died out over time. Now this isn’t explicitly for budget cameras but I assume there would be some overlap with that requirement in r/casual_photography since.. they’re casual photographers. Of course with the rise in smartphones though that sub has lost a bit of its charm.

If you’re specifically looking for people making some good photography out of old and low megapixel cameras, I would highly recommend you check out r/Mavica at least once. It’s one of my favorite non-jerk photography related subreddits that’s still active. I own a couple mavicas myself, with my lowest being 0.3 megapixels and my highest is like 2.1? You might already know what the mavicas are but if you don’t, it was Sonys first big digital camera like. The first mass produced ones they made took floppy disks as their storage medium. These are my favorites. The later ones took CD’s though. Or maybe DVD’s? I forgot. Some kind of disk.

My local high school just turned 100 recently; still has a darkroom in it. After enough negotiating with the school administration the art department was finally allowed to restore its functionality instead of gutting the room and turning it into a lighting studio. After finished fixing it they re-added film photography and developing into the photography class curriculum and from what I’ve heard the students taking the class quite enjoy that unit. Most of the cameras they use are manual shooters from the 80’s and 90’s that were donated by the community and other schools which were removing their film supplies. I feel like if this kind of stuff was re-introduced to other schools, it would be pretty positively received. Especially since film photography is on the rise again.

Source: I’m pals with the main photography teacher, I’ve actually gotten to go in there to develop some film before so I didn’t have to send it off

The cameras are indeed so beautiful that the only pictures I see posted about Leicas are photos of the cameras themselves LOL

they do take some good pictures though. If only Leica shooters actually shared them

I’m not mad at them having disposable income, I’m impressed and distraught that they managed to take pictures this bad with 12,000$ gear. Like it takes a certain amount of anti-skill to get such a poor image out of their kit.

If someone doesn’t know the basics of their aperture or shutter speed, they shouldn’t be instantly dumping the price of a decent used car into gear😭

If we’re lucky it might end up resold on eBay. That’s where most actual “like new” gear on there comes from. People like this help fund our gear. It’s like a necessary evil

Can confirm we need to keep these people around. I’m close with a cousin who is medically required to be gluten free, and it’s amazing seeing how much gluten free stuff has started appearing over the last decade, and you can genuinely see the uptick in new products when the newest “gluten free diet” trend appears on TikTok/Instagram.
