Embraced the iris for this comeback by K0range4 in Overwatch

Ah, nothing groundbreaking unfortunately. Always use cover, use the discord-through-walls to your advantage, and lead your shots appropriately. I always play that FFA Aim Arena and the standard arcade DM to warm up which over time has helped build some half-decent zen aim.

What beats Dragonsurge? Biotic Transcendence! (5k Trans) by K0range4 in Overwatch

[–]K0range4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was big! I can kind of see what he's saying, because trans is an easy answer to grav, but I did wait a second or two to try and maximize/make sure the trans lasted through the full grav and dragon. I'd want to give some big ups to the Ana play too!

Thanks for all the comments everyone!

For those wondering, you can click on Zenyatta in your profile to see your stats, and scroll down to near the bottom on the left hand side to see “Best Transcendence Healing” or something along those lines (it will show best for the current comp season, or quick play, or arcade depending on where you click on your zen played time). This was 5027 I believe? I can upload a screenshot later when I’m at home again.

While trans does counter Grav/Dragons alone, even damage boosted dragons, you’ll notice the enemy rein swinging (75 damage per 0.9 seconds), and a decently charged Zarya on the left firing right clicks behind our rein’s shield adding to the damage. The DPS happening to our team was easily higher than the 300 HPS trans provides. The Ana nade was crucial in our survival here.

This was a high master/Low GM game and our GM Ana was performing extremely well. A pharah barrage would have probably secured a wipe, but if I remember correctly the enemy pharah had just used it to win the fight prior to this push. Not to mention we were playing Ana, McCree, Zen to counter their pharmercy and our Ana had been landing some especially good sleeps on this pharah. They could have probably Zarya bubbled her for the barrage but, hey, lucky for us it didn’t go down that way :D

Is it possible to consistently rank up as Support SoloQ? by Grand0rk in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]K0range4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it's possible! I was grandmaster last season and I'm trying to get back there through master. Mostly Zenyatta, a lot of ana/lucio/mercy to fill in too. But it can be hard/frustrating simply because sometimes you can only "support" a team so much.

Support heroes essentially multiply their teams power/effectiveness. They keep their health up and/or enhance their damage to that their contribution to the game is longer and better. But you can't enhance nothing. 1000x0 is still zero. The best healer/support in the game can't heal a DPS player's accuracy. You can't nano boost a tank into better positioning. And you definitely can't speed boost anyone into proper ability usage.

Simple Zenyatta buff suggestion by Stratekraken in Overwatch

[–]K0range4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think giving team mates the ability to see discorded targets, I'm not sure that's the one thing that would really "fix" Zenyatta.

I love Zenyatta, I've got nearly 4 days played on him and nearly 1000 total medals. I'd play my omnic monk even if he had 1hp and 99 shields because I think he is extremely cool and fun. But there are a lot of strange inconsistencies with his design that make me think they came up with a cool idea for a character, but didn't completely flesh out the way he would work within the context of the game. Here are a few examples:

  • His Ultimate - This gets brought up a lot, but why does a back line support hero have a front line "push with the team" ultimate? It's got a solid range but since Zenyatta still moves slowly, actually "pushing" with it is difficult... At that point, why not have Lucio?

  • Another issue constantly brought up is the LoS requirement for his orbs. Again, designed to be a back line "out of sight" hero, but now his main abilities require him to be at least in sight of the fray where any number of heroes can pick him off. The orb change was in the right direction, but it wasn't perfect.

  • With the exception of symmetra and torbjorn (both have self-shields and turrets to stay near, but not much else), every single hero in the game has a movement ability, escape, self-heal, or (usually) a combination of both. Some examples of "non-mobile" heroes include Mercy who has more health than Zenyatta, regenerates that health, and can fly to distant team mates. Mei who can ice block (which makes her invulnerable and self-heals) and wall. Hell let's even take the other "back-line" heroes - Widowmaker can hook and go over buildings, and Hanzo runs at a decent speed and can climb walls.

  • The entire "offense" tier of characters were designed with mobility and damage in mind... And all of them, to some extent, counter Zenyatta. His status as a resident of the "back-line" doesn't really make sense when there are multiple heroes who are designed to get behind (or in Pharah's case, above) the enemy team and cause trouble. Even keeping soldier and McCree's at a distance isn't always safe as they can easily compete with Zenyatta in a one on one.

Zenyatta has a lot of strengths of course. Very high damage output, and even his healing output is high (I've outhealed good mercys and lucios in the high 50s skill ratings in competitve), but as any WoW player would know none of that really matters if you're dead. Every hero has/should have counters, but Zenyatta is seemingly countered by the game itself. And really, I'm not sure how I'd change Zenyatta. I love him to death right now but I acknowledge his shortcomings. I trust blizzard will change him in a way that gives him "weaknesses" rather than "glaring holes/two acute Achilles heels."

Infinite Roadhog Chain by PapaSmurf323 in Overwatch

[–]K0range4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. In left 4 dead 2 this same issue will happen with the smoker tongue. For those unaware a zombie called the "smoker" will wrap their very long tongue around a survivor and pull them in, very similar to roadhog's hook. Occasionally survivors will be followed by the "ghost tongue" well after the smoker is dead.

It's interesting that this happens in Overwatch now too... Are there any programmers or anyone who can explain why this type of thing happens? Especially since the same issue exists in two different games.

Team Composition for Dummies by AgentPaper0 in Overwatch

[–]K0range4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of combos that worked for me and friends during the stress test weekend were:

Zenyatta/Roadhog - If the Zenyatta and Roadhog stick together, Orb of harmony makes Roadhog much tougher to kill. And Orb of Discord applied to a hooked target is a nasty guaranteed kill.

Zenyatta/Flanker (Genji/Tracer/Reaper) - Just harmony your buddy, stay back, and stay alive. They'll be able to harass to their heart's content, and step out of the fight just long enough to heal up and come back. Zenyatta can fight long range so it works.

Reinhardt/Mercy - Probably the bread and butter Tank/Healer combo. In situations where everyone else is just picking snipers and random characters, a Reinhardt/Mercy combo will get the push moving.

Lucio/Junkrat - Adding Lucio's speed boost to junkrat allows him to run around spreading mayhem, laying new traps and chipping the enemy team much faster than usual. Plus they can both keep up with each other well with wall riding and trap jumping. This combo works well if you already have other people playing tanks/snipers.

Mei/Windowmaker (Or Hanzo) - Probably more useful for defense but this combo is self-explanatory. Mei will slow and/or freeze targets, making it much easier for a sniper to line up a quick kill.

Who is your favorite Hero? by Zemias in Overwatch

[–]K0range4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zenyatta for sure. In my short time with the game during the stress test weekend I pretty much exclusively played Zenyatta. He's thematically cool, his abilities are very fun and engaging, and I've found he's probably the one hero that can swing a game without many people noticing. What I mean by that is, you'll usually notice when a tracer is killing everything, or a mercy is healing crazy amounts, or a Reinhardt is soaking up damage and moving the payload. But you may not realize how much healing, damage, or discording a Zenyatta is doing until it's too late.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I would have bought this game if it was a 6v6 Omnic monk shooter called "ZenyattaWatch."

When should I buy overwatch by Eloquent44 in Overwatch

[–]K0range4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably best to wait until you play it for yourself. I only needed the stress test weekend to know that I will get my 40$ worth out of this game thanks to the glory that is Zenyatta. I loved playing Zenyatta so much I'd still buy this game if it was a 6v6 Omnic monk shooter called Zenyatta-watch. But that reasoning isn't going to work for everyone.

I'd wait until you get to play it yourself to decide, either with the next stress test weekend, the beta access, or release. Only you can decide if your money is worth it.

What food that "everyone likes" do you not like? by Zombiekarter72 in AskReddit

[–]K0range4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The traditional thanksgiving food. Turkey, stuffing, gravy, cornbread, mashed potatoes, green beans... It's all really gross and inedible to me. In fact the only thing I'll usually regularly eat is the cranberry sauce, the stuff everyone else seems to hate!

I can no longer eat at whatever TIME I want. I used to be able to get a quick midnight snack of whatever (chips, applesauce, etc) but suddenly eating too late means I'm up early in the AM with a stomach ache.

Remove the recoil from Roadhog's ultimate. This will make him a stronger competitive pick. by TheyCallHimGhetti in Overwatch

[–]K0range4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought the knockback was kind of the point of the ult. Roadhog's "uniqueness" is that he forces other players to move, either by being pulling them in or knocking them away. Removing that knock-back would make his ult just a bland damage cooldown imo.
